As we see the superstars of toady approach their final years in the league, such as Roy, Sakic, Yzerman, Lemieux, their is a new generation of elite players who will take the torch and represent the new superstars of the league.

TSN.ca is reporting that Tony Amonte has signed with the Coyotes. The last of the upper tier unrestricted free agents, Tony Amonte, has found a home.

(Jul. 12th) — TFP has learned that the Ottawa Senators have re-sign team captain Daniel Alfredsson. The Ottawa Sun is reporting the two sides have agreed to a 2-year, $9.5 million contract, which could be worth as much as $10 million with bonuses.

The Senators would not confirm, nor deny these reports. A Senators representative told TFP, “We’ll announce it, when we announce it.”

The Team 1050 in Toronto is reporting that Tony Amonte Will make a decision on which team to join by Saturday. According to the report, Amonte has two offers and is expecting two more today. No word on which teams are involved, but the Rangers, Leafs and Islanders are all rumoured suitors for the Winger’s services.

New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that the club has agreed to terms with unrestricted free agent left wing Ted Donato. Terms of the contract were not disclosed. (newyorkrangers.com)

The New Jersey Devils today signed free agent goaltender Corey Schwab to a contract. The announcement was made by Devils’ CEO/President/ General Manager Lou Lamoriello. As per club policy, no terms were disclosed.

Schwab, 31, spent the 2001-02 season with Toronto where he posted 12 wins, ten losses and five ties, with one shutout and a 2.73 goals-against average in 30 games played. The 6’0”, 180 lb. native of North Battleford, Sask. is looking to become the seventh player to be re-acquired and play for the Devils. He has career totals of 35 wins, 60 losses, and 11 ties with four shutouts and a 3.08 GAA in 133 games with New Jersey, Tampa Bay, Vancouver, and Toronto. Schwab was selected by the Devils in the tenth round of the 1990 Entry Draft.

Over the last few days Toronto newspapers have been filled with articles calling for Pat Quinn’s head as GM. Its hard to find anyone in Toronto who is happy with the moves or lack there of that he has done this offseason. The question is does he need to be replaced?

Are the Avs being too complacent this offseason, or are they just lying in wait. Don’t worry too much Avs fans, I think there will be moves coming soon.

Mike Gillis, Tony Amonte’s agent was quoted in the NY Times as saying that the Islanders and Rangers are the frontrunners for Tony Amonte’s services after Toronto pulled out when Amonte turned down their 5 year, 32 million dollar offer.
