The Penguins have traded Jan Hrdina and Francois Leroux to the Phonix Coyotes for former Flyer Gullieme Lefebvre, Ramzi Abid, and Dan Focht.

Now the Amonte trade looks better.

Battaglia to the Avalanche

Avalanche traded Radim Vrbata to the Carolian Hurricanes for Bates Battaglia.

Wayne Primeau to Sharks for Bradley

Wayne Primeau of the Pittsburgh Penguins traded to the San Jose Sharks for Matt Bradley.

No biggie, but it could be a start for a bigger deal from the Sharks.

Schneider to Red Wings

Red Wings acquired LA Kings defenseman Metthieu Schneider for Sean Avery and Maxim Kuznetsov, a 2003 1st rounder draft pick and 2nd round pick in 2004.

My take: Horrible trade for the Red Wings, horrible. I wouldn’t even trade a 1st round pick for Schneider.

It's Deadline Day, and the Panthers looking to Sign UFA?

With the trade deadline today at 3 p.m., Panthers General Manager Rick Dudley spent most of Monday on the phone.

New Jersey Making A Big Move???

Here’s a rumor I heard yesterday that simply won’t go away…

Damphousse Stays a Shark, most likely

The Fourth Period –

Published reports indicate that San Jose Sharks veteran Vincent Damphousse will not be traded to the Colorado Avalanche, and likely will stay with the Sharks. The Avs and Sharks had reportedly agreed to a trade that would have seen Damphousse in Denver. The problem arose when the Avs wanted Damphousse to restructure his contract, which has a player option for next year at $4 million. Apparently Colorado wanted Damphousse to reduce the salary to around $3 million for next year but the player refused.

Malakhov, Poti Available?

The New York Post has NHL Team Officials saying that the Rangers are “dangling” defensemen Tom Poti and Vladimir Malakhov to land a much needed left-winger, maybe Miro Satan or Petr Bondra.

My take: I don’t think Poti will be dealt, but it is a possibility. He hasn’t done badly this season, but he couldn’t make Leetch look old. His contract is up this year, possible trade can occur. also speaks about the Rangers landing Miro Satan.

The Post then mentioned that the defensive gap would be filled by Janne Niinimaa. Another possibility could be Jason Smith (contract is up this season).

Devils Acquire Smehlik, Marshall

This is quite funny. I could not log on to the site for the whole day until tonight. So, I was expecting so many submitted articles about the trades and I saw all trade stories submitted except for any of them from the Devils.

Either the Devils fans are actually following orders that the staff will take care of the stories, that the other fans would submit the stories, or no one just cares about anything the Devils do!

Anyway, the Devils acquired defenseman Richard Smehlik from the Atlanta Thrashers and Grant Marshall from the Columbus Blue Jackets. Conditionals and 4th round picks were sent in return.

Smehlik is a great addition to the Devils, fits in perfectly and talk about a d-man who knows what the playoffs are like with a world class goalie. Marshall is a 4th line gritty player, and a much needed one for a Devils team that is small and not tough.

In the end, this defines key playoff trade coming up next for the Devils
