Orpik Re-signs

Pittsburgh Post Gazette reports, that defensman Brooks Oprik has resigned with the team.

Terms are not known, but it is rumored that it is a one-year deal for about $600,000.

This will bolster the Pens blue line with a young, physical, stay-at-home type defenseman.

Parrish finally re-signs with Islanders

Finally Restricted free agent Mark Parrish re-signed with the New York Islanders late monday night and made it just in time for training camp tuesday morning. He accepted a 1 year, $1.9 million deal.

XM Satellite Pays $100 Mln for Hockey Game Rights

Sept. 12 (Bloomberg) — XM Satellite Radio Holdings Inc., the biggest U.S. subscription-radio service, will pay $100 million to broadcast National Hockey League games for 10 years to expand its programming.

Bondra signs with Thrashers

TFP has learned that the Atlanta Thrashers have agreed in principle to a one-year deal with veteran winger Peter Bondra.

According to a league source, Bondra’s deal is filled with incentives, while his base salary is just over $500,000.

St. Louis Post reports that Scott Young has returned to the Blues. The announcement should come sometime today.

So who is the best centre in the NHL? A very tough question indeed since there are so many to choose from. But I will try to narrow it down to the 10 best centres in the NHL. I also threw in rankings for top young centre and checking centre.

Bye bye Parrish?

Mark Parrish has until midnight tonight to accept a contract from the New York Islanders. Charles Wang has a policy that if you miss training camp because you are not signed, you will be locked out.

Habs sign Ryder to a 1 year, $1 Million deal.

According to TSN & RDS, the Montreal Canadiens have signed sophomore winger Michael Ryder to a one year, $1 Million contract. Ryder was the last unsigned player to be signed.

The Palm Beach Post reports that the Florida Panthers have agreed on one-year contracts with centre Olli Jokinen and defenceman Mike Van Ryn.

Saskin, Linden Asked to Resign

The Toronto Star reports that a group of NHL veterans are calling for the resignation of NHL Players Association executive director Ted Saskin, union president Trevor Linden and other players association officials amid allegations that Saskin was hired improperly.

Bondra to the Thrashers?

Eklund claims that according to “an Atlanta Based source” Bondra signed a deal late sunday night to play with the Thrashers. There currently is no mention of either the term or value of the contract.

Perreault going to Preds camp

Center Yanic Perreault has accepted a tryout invitation extended by the Nashville Predators and will attend the team’s training camp, which opens Monday.
