2006-2007 Roster and Salary Room

The leafs still have enough money to get Carter, Peca or Allison. Here is how they are set up. Tucker- $1,596,000

Sundin- $7,600,000

Oneil- $1,500,000

The way the contracts are set up is that most of the pay is payed first like in Mccabes contract. While Sundin is 7 million because his last year was the most when he signed with Quinn.

So with two open roster spots on forwards they have $2,842,410 to spend on each player. Being that they will probly let a young guy like Suglobov take that spot it will end up being somthing around $5,184,820 to spend on one player! But hang on a second we still have to leave some wiggle room so we will leave $2.5 million. So there you have it $2,684,820 to spend on either Allison, Peca, or Carter. The Question is who will it be?

Or Lindros because he hasn’t signed yet

  2. Farva says:

He will be a Star soon. What we need to do is sign Peca to a three year deal with a club option. I dont know what JFJ is doing but we need to get this done soon.

And if he brings back Allison, I will be the newest Hab fan. If this man cant see that bringing Allison back is a mistake, then he should not have the kind of power he does over a team with such a dedicated fan base.

  3. -TML- says:

I think Peca will take the spot….

well written; I Enjoyed reading it.

  4. odie says:

well the leafs needs carter..they also needs peca…with improved defense i think we need peca more because goal scoring is on the back burner this year…lindros can only give a bit of both so we have to let him leave

  5. -TML- says:

I’m pleased that LIndros didn’t accept that 7.5K lol(which was a jk)… lol steen will shine this year, I guarantee it!11

  6. Aetherial says:

    I see 16 names.

    I don’t see any goalies

I don’t see Wellwood or Stajan on there

I don’t see the buyout commitment to Domi or Belfour.

I think Kilger counts less than 1,2 on the cap also.

So, maybe your numbers are right, actually they sound about right, but some more detail on ALL the roster players and cap commitments would have made this a lot more complete.

Also, this was basically already posted. The only difference are confirmed amounts on a few players like Antropov and Colaiacovo.

You said “The way the contracts are set up is that most of the pay is payed first like in Mccabes contract”, which is false, its actually the average over the course of the contract, so lets say that a contract stated a player would be paid 2 million the first, 2.5 million the next and 3 million the third, the actual amount of cap space taken would be 2.5 million every year for three years they would give the guy 3.5 million his first year and only 2 million the next two years. In no way will McCabe be taking 7 150 000 of the cap space this year.

  8. lukeleim says:

sign peca and trade for a first line winger!

  9. BlueGrit says:

If jfj decides on allison over carter or peca, I will lose it. I mean, allison did produce points last year, but his days are numbered. Im getting more and more ticked that fergy wants to hold the dollars for a rainy day in the middle of the season. Carter or pecs will add more to the blue and white than turtle allison will even if they cost more than jason, but it would not shock me if he is resigned over the other guys mentioned. After all, antropov is STILL somehow on this team

  10. lukeleim says:

2006/2007 Toronto Maple Leafs as of July 17th.

    Coach: Paul Maurice

Alexei Ponikarovsky – Mats Sundin – Nik Antropov

Chad Kilger – Kyle Wellwood – Darcy Tucker

Alexander Steen – Matt Stajan – Jeff O’Neill

Robbie Earl – John Pohl – Eric Westrum

Nikolai Kulemin – Jiri Tlusty – Ben Ondrus

    Jeremy Williams – Aleksander Suglobov

    Tomas Kaberle – Bryan McCabe

    Pavel Kubina – Carlo Colaiacovo

    Hal Gill – Ian White

    Staffan Kronwall – Jay Harrison

    Andy Wozniewski – Wade Belak

    Phil Oreskovic – Brendan Bell

    Andrew Raycroft

    Jean-Sebastien Aubin

    Mikael Tellqvist

    J.F Racine

    Justin Pogge

    Todd Ford

  11. Farva says:

Antropov on the first line? Why? How about Steen takes that spot as an apprentice as a future leader of this club. And Poni should only be there in the absence of a new scoring winger (even then it is debatable). I think Suglabov is on a one way contract, so he should be given a 4th line spot with Pohl and Westrum..

I think that ideally JFJ should sign Peca long-term, as we do need a responsible second line center (and Allison is NOT it!), and try his damndest to trade for a quality scoring winger for Mats. Without an upgrade at center AND wing, the defence upgrades just help us from sliding further.

Until the kids are ready to fully take over this team, we need to provide veteran leadership and tutelage.

    Good post though.

  12. leafsrule1967 says:

i say trade tellqvist and belak for a winger and sign peca as he would help the leafs farther than accident prone allison

  13. Leafsgreatestfan says:

    hey look

i forgot to add stajan and the goalies are already counted for but i dont have them listed i have already counted the domi and belfour buyout against the cap. TRUST ME. it is all figured out

  14. Farva says:

Your preaching to the choir brother. We will prolly have to throw in someone else or a pick for someone of any consequence.

  15. Grimreaper_11 says:

the leafs have said that Wade Belak will be a winger if/when he sees icetime

  16. Leafsgreatestfan says:

are u positive on that because tsn reports this year salarys

  17. intothevoid001 says:

yes, thats exactly it, this YEARS salary. the salary cap is based on average contract amount. 28.75(Mccabe’s contract) works out to be 5.75 over the course of 5 years, therefore, there is a 5.75 mil hit on the cap rather then at 7.15.. but on the other hand, at the end of his contract when hes only making 3 mil, it’ll still be 5.75 against the cap. another example is keith tkachuck. he made 7.6 last year but is only making 3.8 this year, so on average, the hit against the cap for st. louis is 5.7…

  18. intothevoid001 says:

so long aki berg, i think we’ve found ourselves a new scapegoat! another useless player taking up a roster spot… he takes too many penalties. they should give the spot to ondrus, he kicks ass!
