Canadiens claim Traverse off of waivers

Montreal claimed him from San Jose on waivers. I wonder if the injury to Souray is more serious than originally thought.

Toronto Maple Leafs Season Preview

The Year That Was:

The Maple Leafs last season were simply put not very good. After making the playoffs for the previous 6 seasons, the team fell flat on their face finishing 9th and missing the big dance for the first time under coach Pat Quinn. Poor personnel moves were made last summer due to un-necessary financial commitments as the team could only watch top tier talent change places all over the league leaving themselves to pick up the scraps left over. The team did little to adjust to the new rules and penalty standards taking the attitude that things wont change and brushed them aside with a huff. After 3 quarters of the year passed, it was then it hit them that they needed to start adapting to the what the league mandated and by then, it was too late. As usual in the Pat Quinn era, everything and everyone else was to blame for what happened but in the end the Leafs missed the playoffs and had no one to blame but themselves.

Zherdev Close to Signing?

According to the Columbus Dispatch, negotiations between Zherdev and the Jackets have resumed, and a new deal could be signed within the next 24-48 hours assuming no ‘hiccups’ arise. It’s expected to be close to the 3 year contract the Jackets last offered.

…”We’ve got real progress, which is good,” MacLean said. “We have not agreed to terms. I wouldn’t say we’re close, necessarily, in a lot of respects.

“But I would say the foundation is in place where we could get something done if we keep having productive talks.” …

Possible Flyers Solutions

With the terrible news of Nittymaki going down and being out for possibly 3 months, one really must wonder what is going through Clarke’s mind right now? Should we go after very good goalie and trade some good assets? Should we go with Esche and see how he pans out for the time being? Or should we trade for a backup for Esche? In this article, I take a look at possible moves to make…

The Los Angeles Kings have reached an agreement on a two-year contract extension with Kings goaltender Dan Cloutier, Kings President/General Manager Dean Lombardi announced today. Per club policy, terms of the agreement were not announced.

What's going on with Jordan Staal?

This year’s 2nd overall draft pick has impressed enough at training camp and preseason games to merit a trip to West Point, N.Y., for three days of team-building. Staal becomes one of 29 remaining Penguins players vying for a spot. Now with the injury to Malkin, Staal may have a chance to fill in for 9 games and still be allowed to return to juniors without having a year count against his entry-level contract.

Badnews for Bell

I was up set when i read this beacause Heatly might be getting away with it.He’s is taking chances away of possibly futur stars, he should be punished!

2006-07 Panthers

From the sun-sentinel GM/Coach Martins establishes the panthers lines…

Should he stay or should he go??

I think it’s obvious that this kid is doing what is required of him to make this team, and he now has another year under his belt. While he put points on the board after being sent back to Drummondville, I think we can all agree that he didn’t have a stellar year(including not getting much playing time for team Canada). This time around, if Gainey sends him back to Junior…he will be without the guy who gets him the puck(Brassard is out for the year).

So clearly, sending him back would be a mistake.

But now, who’s place on the roster will he take???

Many people here in Montreal have been pointing the finger to Perezhogin, but is that really the solution?

I think Gainey’s hand might FINALLY be forced to make a move to clear up a roster space. We need help on defense, and that should be his focus.

Opening night roster should look like this….

Samsonov Higgins Koivu

Latendresse Koivu Ryder

Perezhogin Plekanec Johnson

Begin Bonk Murray

The Captain! Who will lead their team to glory?

Will it be another North American captain? Or will we finally see the first European captain lead his team to the Cup?

TSN just released a good article on captains at:

Sakic is the longest serving captain. Sundin 2nd. There are now more captains from overseas than ever before, 10 in total. Who will be victorious? Yet another North American, or will the trend shift?

Out of his League

Today on Eklund has posted an article about the Devils salary situation. He says he’s spent a day searching for rumors and has discovered a rumor that Mogilny’s salary won’t count against the cap. Funny, I heard all that yesterday on TSN or Sportsnet when it was reported that Moginly had seen a second doctor and there was no possibility he could return to the NHL. Eklund then goes on to state 5 other NJ rumors:

Updated Leafs Roster

The leafs roster currently has the following 33 players:

Blue Jackets' Klesla suspended for clip

TSN has reported Columbus defenceman Rostislav Klesla has been suspended two regular-season games for his “clip” of Chicago forward Tuomo Ruutu
