Northwest Division Preview

Here is a preview of the teams in the Northwest Division in no particular order.

Rules Modifications

It’s not much of a problem, but rather fixing a problem. The NHL Board of Governers has recently approved a variety of rule cahnges and modifications, which are listed below.

Dyrden And Savard To Be Honoured

In a not so secret announcement that was supposed to have taken place on wednesday but was postponed due to the unfortunate cir¢umstances that happened at Montreal’s Dawson College, the Montreal Canadiens were to announce that the numbers of Serge Savard (18) and Ken Dryden (29) are going to be retired this upcoming season.

TSN is reporting due to the injury of Frantisek Kaberle the Hurricanes are shopping Jack Johnson for immediate help on the blueline after he decided to stay in school one more season.

Dvorak signs with Blues

StLouisBlues.com and Larry Brooks of the New York Post are reporting that former Oilers forward Radek Dvorak has signed a free-agent deal with the Blues.

Flying Under The Radar?

Is it possible that the Colorado Avalanche, who once had one of the most feared teams in the NHL, are flying under the radar? Yes they no longer have the likes of Forsberg, Tanguay, Foote, Blake, or Roy; but they are still a force to be reckoned with. I’m a huge Colorado Fan (I was a Nordique fan) so maybe I am biased but maybe people just don’t know the players on the “new” team.

The Hawks re-signed Ruutu to a two-year deal, general manager Dale Tallon told chicagoblackhawks.com. Ruutu is expected to arrive in Chicago Thursday

Stajan locked up

The deal will pay Stajan $800,000 this season and $950,000 in 2007-08.

Stajan, who was Toronto’s last restricted free agent, tallied 15 goals and 12 assists in 80 games with the Maple Leafs last season. In 150 career NHL games he has totals of 30 goals and 25 assists.

The 22-year-old was drafted in the second round (57th overall) by the Maple Leafs in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.

Playoff Bound or Sinking Fast

Everyone is doubting whether or not the Canucks will make the playoffs this season AND TRAINING CAMP JUST STARTED! They’ve lost Bertuzzi, Carter, Park, Ruutu, Jovanovski, Baumgartner, Allen, Cloutier, and Auld. Have they possibly replaced all of those players? Is it really enough?

Leafs resign Stajan

TSN.ca is reporting

The Toronto Maple Leafs and forward Matt Stajan have agreed on a two-year deal worth $1.75 million.
