Rumors swirling as the trade winds blow in Vancouver

A hot commodity for teams right now shopping for power play help is defensemen Sami Salo. The Finnish McInnis is set to become unrestricted at the end of the year and because of his contract status many teams are contacting the Canucks to see if he is available. It should be noted that the Canucks are top in their division right now and Salo is a huge part of the Canucks success. I would have to think that Nonis is not willing to part with Salo via trade and is more likely to hang onto to him and take his chances trying to sign him to a contact extension.

Nashville Not Done Shopping

According to the Tennessean.com scouts from St. Louis, Detroit, Pittsburgh and the Islanders were on hand to watch their latest game.

Will the Habs sell? Of course not, stupid!

It’s no secret the Habs would love to move Sergei Samsonov. There was also an RDS report last night that Alex Kovalev had asked for a trade, but apparently was taken down, and there have been whispers of Sheldon Souray being moved because of his contract situation, I’ve even heard Saku Koivu’s name come up at the hockeybuzz forums, and it makes me think, will the Habs sell? Of course not!

Has Montreal been a playoff team at any point this season?

I’m not gonna say that Montreal didn’t have a good start, butI don’t think any great teams have 2+ month slumps. Now I know your gonna compare that to the record at the start of the season, but who hasn’t had a 6+ or 7+ game streak this year? I’m not saying Montreal’ was only 6 or 7 games, and just saying they got off to a quick startthen played like a normal team and now there playing like the team most people expected to see at the begining of the year. The team is honestly not very skilled.

What the Habs need for a successful 2007-2008 campaign

We’ve a lot of youth on this team. What do we need to become a contender for next year?

Armchair GMs, should the Habs try and make the playoffs?

What exactly are Gainey’s objectives? Is he trying to setup the Habs for a playoff run this season (whether it be successful or not)? Is he willing to set up the team for the next 5 years if it means sacrificing the rest of the season?

Bob Gainey looking forward to be a buyer, instead of a seller, etc, etc.

The Montreal Canadiens, in desperate situation, are negotiating with western teams, like San Jose Sharks and Anheim Ducks, to sell Sheldon Souray to them for prospects, draft picks, and 1 centremen, according to http://spectorshockey.tripod.com/spectors_trade_rumours.html.

Raycroft The Work Horse- But can he bring it Home?

So As well as Raycroft (and the buds as a whole) has been playing of late
(11-5-?)I am worried that if the plan is to ride that wave into the playoff’s is he going to have the gas in the tank to push through some gruelling playoff rounds for us? He’s played 19 in a row and played only 25 all of last year! How is his game conditioning?

HTR.com Trade Deadline Guide

It’s all here, the HTR.com Guide to the Trade Deadline. All that you can possibly imagine.

Korolyuk back to the Sharks

In an odd move for a player who hasn’t played in the NHL for three years, the San Jose Sharks have acquired Alexander Korolyuk from the New Jersey Devils in exchange for a third round pick.

Coyotes Re-sign Tellqvist

TSN.ca reports that the Phoenix Coyotes have resigned Goaltender Mikeal Tellqvist to a two year deal.

Joe Sakic nets his 600th.

HTR would like to say “Congratulations” to Burnaby Joe. Sakic scored his 600th goal last night in a game against the Calgary Flames. Although it was an empty net goal, it will look like top shelf in the stats books.

Doan Deal a Killer for the Leafs

Buried under the big news of the Peter Forsberg trade to the Nashville Predators was the confirmation of the signing by the Phoenix Coyotes of forward Shane Doan to a 5 year 23 million dollar deal that includes a no-movement clause. The 30 year old power forward was set to become an unrestricted free agent. The Yotes seemed poised to be a big seller come the trade deadline after already moving forward Ladislav Nagy however the team decided to keep their captain and heart and soul player in the fold.
