!Blitzkrieg! of the Penguins

Forget the March of the Penguins, this is an all out Blitzkrieg.

They have just handed Nashville, the best team in the league, their hats and literally kick them out the door. In there own building no less!

With the recent success of the Pittsburgh Penguins I wonder just how far they can go.

Winning, winning…. but getting no where.

After the lock out, there were a lot questions regarding how the new rules would pan out.
For the most part, a couple of rules seem to be working – No two line pass (speeds up the game) – Goalie trap zones ( keeps goalie in the net ) – Puck over the glass penalty ( Adds pressure to defence on a power play )

The referees…. I don’t think they’ve got better or worse. On some nights officiating is horrible! Calling penalties all game. Some games…. not so much. There are still a ton of injuries regardless how strict you get. So refs stop slowing the game down!!!

Samsonov Clears Waivers And Wants To Stay!

The Russian winger, a major disappointment this season, says he’s looking forward to staying on with the Montreal Canadiens after meeting with head coach Guy Carbonneau and GM Bob Gainey.

SATHER VOWS TO KEEP KIDS

Very entertaining article in the New York Post today featuring tidbits from GM Glen Sather, even including this quote:

“I’ll tell you what, if Pittsburgh called and offered us [Sidney] Crosby tomorrow, I’d even throw in my left [testicle].”

Samsonov on waivers: Will there be a taker?

After being placed on waivers on Tuesday, Sergei Samsonov is not likely to return on the ice any time soon… unless he is claimed by another team or gets traded.

Florida Panthers Ready To Become Sellers At Deadline?

Hey everybody I heard on the Darren Dreger insider that the Florida Panthers will be sellers at the trade deadline here are some names that I keep on hearing example Nathen Horton, Olli Jokinen, Todd Bertuzzi, Gary Roberts those are the names that I keep on hearing that the Florida Panthers will sell!!!!!

Karlis Skrastins to break a record!

Tonight, Avs defenseman Karlis Skrastins played in his 486th consecutive game which ties him with Tim Horton for the longest consecutive games streak by a defensemen in NHL history. He can break the record Thursday night against Atlanta.

Messier Back on Broadway

According to TSN Messier wants to take over the Rangers GM job when Sather retires.  With him saying this I can see even more people screaming for Sather’s head and having Mess replace him.

I would Rather see him in the locker room, but if he can put some passion in this team from the front office, he can still work wonders.

Samsonov on Waivers!

According to spectorshockey.net and sportsnet.ca, the Montreal Canadiens have placed winger Sergei Samsonov on waivers today. This would mean that any team who decides to pick him up has to only pay half of his salary.

Samsonov Requests Trade

Sergei Samsonov’s agent confirmed to the Journal de Montreal that his client wants out of Montreal and would like to be traded prior to the February 27th deadline.

Blockbuster in the Works?

Rumors are starting to circulate in Florida; Jokinen’s name has come up.

When Jokinen signed the 5 year deal with Florida he was under the impression that Luongo would be their goalie and they would have a chance of making the playoffs during his new contract. With Luongo gone, it seems highly unlikely that the cup will be finding it’s way to Florida, unless TB brings it.

Forsberg News heating Up??

OK, so the word on the street, at least on the mean streets of Philadelphia, is that Peter Forsberg wants to play in the playoffs and will likely waive his no-trade clause. The word also is he has an interest in a Canadian team. From where we sit the perfect fit is Montreal.

Canadiens Contemplating Moves??

The Montreal Canadies are 6-8-1 in their last 15 Games and the warning bells appear to be ringing. According to various reports, Canadiens GM Bob Gainey’s telephone bill is on the rise and he is believed to be working on a trade or two in hopes of waking his team up.
