Evgeni Nabokov to Maple Leafs?

Toronto is off to a hot start in the NHL, and with the changes the Maple Leafs made this off-season, they have a legitimate shot at making the playoffs for the first time in several years. One of the biggest concerns for the team is the lack of a quality backup at goalie, but that could change if the latest rumor comes to fruition.

Coyotes Turris asks for a trade

“This has never been about money, we’ve been upfront with the club from Day 1,” Turris’s agent Kurt Overhardt told ESPN.com. “We’ve respectfully requested that the player had the opportunity to move forward in his career by having a fresh start.”

Taken third overall at the 2007 NHL draft, Turris and the Coyotes made no progress this off-season in negotiating a new contract for the restricted free agent.

Coyotes general manager Don Maloney has remained adamant all along that trading the young centre has never been an option.

Connoly looks ready to go tonight

Nothing like a Broadway debut to elevate the excitement of a mid-week hockey game.

For the opening act at Madison Square Garden Thursday night, we have the Rangers playing their first home contest of the season at the renovated and self-proclaimed “most famous arena on earth.”

Also under the lights will be the Big Apple opening for Brad Richards, the marquee acquisition of this summer’s free agency sweeps but a player who has struggled at times early in his Rangers tenure.

Does Kane want out of Winnipeg?

One way we’ll see the effects of losing infecting the team’s core will be players wanting out. Already, a hot rumour has developed on Twitter and websites in Winnipeg that Evander Kane has demanded a trade.

“I’ve spoken with Evander and this is completely untrue,” said agent Craig Oster. “Neither he nor us have talked about a trade. Evander is very excited to be in Winnipeg and about his future with Winnipeg.”

2011 NHL Trade Rumors – Rene Bourque to Maple Leafs?

The Calgary Flames are off to a slow start after just two weeks into the NHL season and it seems that the team will either to try to add some quality veterans or scrap the season and go towards a youth movement.

The latest rumor from Bottom Line Hockey has the Flames sending the veteran winger to the Toronto Maple Leafs in a deal that would probably give Calgary some defense in return.

Are the Ducks looking to make a deal?

The Ducks aren’t scoring many goals and they’re not getting much offense beyond their seasoned big guns at the moment.

Such is life when you’re Bob Murray and you’re counting on a number of younger players while also trying to fill a gaping hole on the second line created when veteran Jason Blake was lost for three months because of a torn tendon injury.

But the Ducks’ general manager doesn’t see the need to make a panic move eight games into the season. Brandon McMillan, Andrew Gordon and other twentysomethings will get some more rope to climb up on.

Joe Colborne lighting up the AHL and becoming a smarter player along the way

As Joe Colborne has been piling up the points with the Toronto Marlies, the 6-foot-5 centre has added a new wrinkle.

Flames targeting Turris

One thing that is very real is the Flames interest in holdout centre Kyle Turris. A source close to the situation confirms the Flames are one of six teams that have made “significant” offers for the Phoenix Coyotes forward. Feaster refuses to comment, but it makes sense as the acquisition of the disgruntled Turris would address two of Calgary’s biggest needs: A centreman and youth.

Jay Feaster is still working the phones. Nothing imminent. As per his modified NTC, Bourque gave a list of 10 teams he won’t go to in July.

No quick fix for Jets

If you’re waiting for Kevin Cheveldayoff to pull the trigger on a couple of blockbuster deals and completely blow up the roster because the Winnipeg Jets are off to a slow start, it’s time to give your head a shake, take a deep breath and adjust your thinking.

It’s simply not going to happen, especially not eight games into an 82-game season.

Rumour mill churns full-time around Flames

Here they come.

Here come the rumours, blog bull and innuendo that so sadly surround the wayward, the struggling and the conflicted.

Seven games into the NHL season and the Calgary Flames are all of the above, prompting the rumour mill to pump out pulp fiction.

The latest laughable link to the Flames suggests perhaps Daniel Alfredsson would be the object of the team’s desires at some point down the road.

More Rumors from Lebrun

LeBrun: I heard from sources on other teams Monday that Gauthier was phoning around looking for help on defense. The thing is, he’s not alone. Tampa and the New York Rangers are among the other teams also looking for blue-line help. It just so happens that Cody Franson is available in Toronto, although I’m not sure whether any of those three teams has interest in him.
