5 gone, 2 to go??
According to TSN.ca, the Washington Capitals have traded yet another player…Veteran center Michal Nylander have been traded to the Boston Bruins in exchange for a 2nd round pick in 2006
Nylander missed 63 games with a broken leg before returning to the Capitals lineup on February 27. He’s expected to fill the role of No. 2 centre on the Bruins.
Last year, he scored 17 goals and 56 points in 71 games with the Capitals, including three goals and five points in six playoff games.
Goaltender Olaf Kolzig and defensemen Brendan Witt are also believed to be shopped by the Caps…
My take:Very good move by the B’s who solidify their 2nd line without moving someone from their roster. Nylander have always been an underated player and will help Boston alot.

Good move by the B’s. I was hoping they wouldn’t stop with getting Gonchar since they need help up front. I’d still like to see them get another forward, but this deal is a good one.
Very amazing. I’ve never seen something like that coming from Boston. Gonchar and Nylander are traded in the same 24 hours… From now on Boston is a SERIOUS contender, more scary then New Jersey. Kovalev to MTL; Gonchar to Boston…
Amazing.

Mikeal Nylander is washed up he wont help the bruins at all. Before this trade i havent heard of him at all this year.

Look at Boston Go!
A good pick and I agree he is underrated.
The Caps are done dealing according to TSN but the way things are going, who knows?
dude, he haven’t played this year because of injury.
Funny how we didn’t heard about Pavel Bure either?
Like I said, Nylander is a very underated player.
Hmm, I agree Nylander is underrated and skilled, but I’m not sure about this one for the B’s. I do think they needed another forward, but I guess only time will tell if this will upset their team chemistry. Still, to pick him up for a second rounder two years down the road is a nice move. If it pans out, geez, the B’s are scary.
I’m a leaf fan but I think that this is a good move by Boston. The playoff’s will be amazing to watch this year as there are some serious contenders from 1 to 8. Great job Boston.
What do you think of the Leetch trade? Do you think it will help the leafs?
Good move by the Bruins.
On the other hand, I do not tend to plan out Leaf Stanely Cup parades…
But, I honestly believe that if the Bruins and Leafs were ever to meet in the playofs… the Bruins would be sent home packing early.
I also don’t think they could Beat Philly, Ottawa, or maybe not even Tampa.
Sorry, the dance floor is too crowded this year an ultimately I don’t think the Bruins have enough still.
Why wasn’t this just thrown in with the Gonchar deal? Probably was because I would have thought Nylander to be worth a little more then a 6th, maybe a 4th or 3rd. But I don’t know. I don’t like this move by the B’s. When a guy like Lindros can be had for very cheap, I think you go after him. Maybe this means that Ronnie Francis isn’t heading anywhere too.
For sure. He’ll play in a lot of situations, he’ll be a wonderful mentor for Kaberle, and will add so much confidence on the ice. He has the experience of a Stanley Cup and he should be hungry for success since the Rangers has been out of the playoffs for so long. I’m not a Leafs fan but I’m happy for Toronto; you guys have a very exciting team; I hope that nobody will be injured. Belfour most of all.

Thanks for the comment and I think that this years playoffs will be one of the better ones.
Of course you don’t you’re a Laffs fan. I think the Bruins could beat the Leafs in 6. All you need is Belfour to go down and its OVER for you. A team of Leetch’s couldn’t help you if Eddie went down. The Leafs really don’t scare me at all, never have. A bunch of whiny, old players. At least the Bruins are young, exciting and have skill. I’d much rather have: Thornton, Murray, Samsonov, Knuble, Rolston, Axelsson, Bergeron, Nylander, Gonchar, Boynton, Slegr, Raycroft (Calder winner and Vezina candidate) and yes even Lapointe then Sundin, Roberts, Nolan, Dummi, Tucker, Rechel, Nieuwendyk, Stajan, Antropov (hahaha), Kaberle, Leetch, McCabe, Belfour
Lets just wait and see!

IS Nylander a playoff rental or does his contract go into next season too????
IF so, is the supposed to replace the loss of BRian Rolston (UFA) at the end of this season
Nylander is an UFA at the end of the season.
Your opinion is interesting.
The ONLY thing that kept Tuesday night’s game from be like 10-0 after the second period was Raycroft.
The Bruins are just as vulnerable in net.
We’ll see.
Last year in the playoffs Nylander was one of the best players for the Caps. This is a solid move by the Bruins, when Nylander is healthy he’s a 55-65 point player. I guess he will be playing on the third line, because they already have Thorton and Rolston up the middle. He should also help out on the powerplay. Out of all the teams in the East I think Boston has made the best moves for the playoffs right now by getting Nylander and Gonchar. Gonchar they might of overpaid a little bit, but so will every team that needs a defensemen at this years trade deadline (look at what the Leafs gave up). A 2nd round pick isn’t bad for Nylander, especially if they want to win now.
Why say sorry? A lot of people don’t think the Leafs have enough either. I don’t think they have the depth to make it through a seven games series and I can see them running out of gas just like they did last year. Bruins have a young goalie that is playing outstanding this year, and now they have some pretty good playoff depth upfront and some scoring power on the blue line. Right now its a toss up for who comes out of the East.
Wings need another D. I know I know there great, but injuries are killing them. Hatcher, Chelios, Dandenault… then Draper too. Needless to say I think another D would be just what the doctor ordered.
Brenden Witt… different conference and Detroit has drafts.
You’re telling us that a 15g-35a player won’t help the Bruins??? How about feeding Rolston, Samsonov, Murray, Lapointe? Nylander will gets assists, believe me. I think Boston have now three solid centers with different styles with Thornton, Bergeron and Nylander.
Nah. Cheli and Hatcher are both coming back within a week. Dandenault will be ready for the playoffs, as will Kronwall (just in case). Only thing I’m worried about is Wooley’s back. He’s been really solid when in the line-up.
I don’t think the Wings should do anything at this point. There is no room on the starting roster for anybody, and I think any moves removing a guy who plays in most of the games would probably do more harm than good, chemistry wise. Seriously, who do you bench/trade? Dandenault or Wooley on D? I can’t think of a single guy up front who we could trade and get an upgrade? As long as Drapes is good for the playoffs, the Wings should stand pat.
P.S. Would of liked to see Lindros up the middle, but Lang is safer.
Haven’t seen much of Nylander, but he’s a sure bet for 2nd line. Rolston always plays on the 3rd even when Boston didn’t have a 2nd line center at start of this season. Getting Gonchar will give Rolston a rest — they’ve played Rolston like an offensive defenseman on special teams.
Yes Hatcher and Chelios are back soon… But how long until Hatcher is game ready and plays like Hatcher can? 5 gms? 10 gms? 20? see there is my risk. Chelios… who’s to say he will be 100% Dandenault broken bone… 4-6 weeks… I mean there is too much weighing on uncertainty… thus I say pick up another D. Oh, Wooley you keep Dandenault you trade or bench…
As a bruin fan, I am happy they are taking the playoffs serously. I think Nylander will help…but dont they all ready have a second line center in Bergeron (he is amazing)…
Your right it is a toss up. But I still think Boston is at the bottom. Their goalie is young and unproven in the playoffs. He is doign what Cloutier did and what Checkmanak did. HEy if Im wrong im wrong, but he still isn’t proven under the pressure of the playoff, and ultimately that could be what kills Boston
great trade fo my bruins but it doesnt solidify their 2nd line it was already solid with rolston at center and knuble on the wing.
For all the goalies you come up with who have failed with mo playoff experience, there is one that has done great.
Just ask Giguere!!
For all the goalies you come up with who have failed with no playoff experience, there is one that has done great.
Just ask Giguere!!
What Bruins team are you watching? Rolston centers Axelsson and LaPointe and Knuble plays with Joe and Glen!
Bergeron was centering the 2nd line. Now with Nylander in town, Boston can play him on the 2nd line and put Bergeron at wing with Samsonov when they return.
Lines should look like this…
Knuble-Thornton-Murray
Bergeron-Nylander-Samsonov
Axelsson-Rolston-LaPointe
Donato-Green-Zamuner
That looks like three solid lines!
True, and Im not saying he would fail or anything. Im saying ur putting a lot of faith in an unproven goalie. I don’t hate boston or anything, actually there one of my top 5 teams. I just say he has to prove himself b4 i would put him against guys like belfour in comparing. Who knows if this is a fluke year or not. It all remains to be seen. I mena look at Guguire now…He is average at best.
They’ve also played Bergeron on wing and he’s played just as well there, too. I don’t know why they moved him — maybe his relative inexperience in the faceoff circle.
These moves are really good ones for the B’s, but totally out of character. Maybe Mike O’Connell is going through a middle-age crisis.
Goaltending in the playoffs is a funny thing. I think that experience definitely does make a world of difference…to some goalies.
THe examples you pointed out of Cloutier and Cechmaneck (sp?) are examples where expereience was a key factor, but neither of them were fundamentally sound goalies. Roman was just a big oaf that could get in the way of pucks, and the heightened playoff speed exposed his weaknesses. Cloutier relies a great deal on his athleticism to make some of the saves he does, and in the playoffs, speed and bounces expose holes in goalies like him.
Now, as for Giguiere, if you watch him, he seems effortless. He was on the ball last year and was in position for absolutely every shot. He was forced to make few real athletic stops, and he was extremely successful. His technical ability made up for his lack of expererience.
I see Raycroft as a lot more of a Giguiere type goalie. He always seems very poised and relaxed, and seems to be in position most of the time. However, he does rely somewhat on his reflexes and athleticism to bail him out in situations where he gets himself in technical trouble.
Hopefully for us B’s fans Raycroft can carry the load into the playoffs, and pull a Giguiere in the process.
THat 2nd line is too fast!! I’d like to see someone try and trap a healthy Samsonov and Bergeron. Speed up the wing with a great passer in the middle.
BTW, does anyone know how Nylander is on the draw?
Yeah i know. I hope for u guys 2. If the leafs don’t win it, I would love to see either boston or tampa take it…I’d love to see thorton hoist the cup. But with unproven playoff goalies u just never know…but heres to hoping
