While the Carolina Hurricanes are trying to add some forward depth as soon as possible, the club remains on the lookout for a more significant addition on defense.
With Justin Williams likely out for the rest of the regular season and with Matt Cullen slowly recovering from a concussion, the Canes are in talks to add an NHL forward to fill out their top nine(LW Sergei Samsonov).
But the Canes continue to pursue potential deals for an offensive-minded defenseman, even if the price now is far too high.
“With injuries and what teams are trying to do to improve their teams, the types of defensemen teams are trying to get are hard to come by,” Hurricanes general manager Jim Rutherford said Monday. “The market value is high, and it’s difficult to acquire what you need.”
