Agreement in Sight?

Could the ugly lockout finally be coming to an end? Sources in Ottawa and around the league think so.Bruce Garrioch has reported that the NHLPA has apparently offered a 6 year deal. In the first 3 years, it would include a 24% rollback and a luxury tax. The much discussed salary cap would kick in after year 3.

There have also been reports that several NHL teams, including the Phoenix Coyotes, have told their players to be prepared to practice in the next 7 days. Not only that, but the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim as well as others, have apparently began to order equipment.

The second meeting is taking place on Thursday in Toronto, and members of the NHLPA’s executive commitee have been flown in.

Could they be on the verge of a deal? Let’s hope so.

let’s not get too excited yet. The yotes and ducks both denied the rumours and Cloutier and Naslund just left for Europe. Of all the players, Trevor Linden is the most privvy to information and therefore, should a deal be close, would he not have mentioned that to his team’s premiere players to keep them around for another week.

Cloutier, by the way, does not have a lockout close and has signed for the rest of the season.

Nope. Unfotunately, that was just a mirage. There still an NHL drought for the forseeable future.
