Amontes' Future

Apparently according to sportsnet in Toronto. Dallas has cooled off on Amonte and that He was asking 7.5 million a season . This figure apparently was too high for toronto (big surprise) and that the islanders are interested but not at this price either .

Why isn’t LA in the Amonte sweepstakes. He is what they need on that second line. He would be a great fit there. They do however, need a second line pivot. Maybe LA is playing it like Colorado, by passing by the big free agent names, and then making trades to add depth. I think the Bruins will land either Selanne or Amonte. There fans will crucify them if they don’t get anybody to replace Guerin. I think Selanne would score more goals for them and earn more points, but I’m surprised the B’s aren’t that interested in Amonte, being the home town kid and adding some leadership that they lost with Guerin.

Selanne just signed with the Sharks for 4 yrs….www.sportsnet.ca

Well, with Selanne and Young both wrapped up, Amonte is the only quality scoring winger left. For Tony’s sake, I hope that his cards have been played correctly. If they have, he’s going to get overpaid by someone like the Leafs looking to save face after missing out on everyone else. On the other hand, all the big money might have already been spent, and Tony might have to end up settling for less. My prediction is that Boston will bring their hometown boy into the fold before the day is over.

Is there anyone left who can afford him? Toronto, maybe. LA. Boston (I would have stuck w/ Guerin, personally). Slim pickings.

  5. titans says:

REPORT: About 30 minutes ago on The Fan 590, a Toronto sports radio station, Amonte’s agent said that he and the Leafs very very close to a deal last night and that talks are currently still under way, but a deal is possible very soon.

Im sorry, the report was at 4:30, which was 90 minutes ago (1 and a half hours).

Listen Titans, I know you and I have had our differences, but I think you are overreacting. I wish the leafs had HALF the team the Flyers did. The Flyers really don’t need to sign a guy like Amonte. They need better coaching and to trade a guy or two (i.e. Primeau, Desjardins). They have all the offense they need. Look at a team like Phoenix and how well they did with that lineup. Philly needs good coaching and to get rid of that moron Clarke.

    Amonte is a 1st liner.

  12. Forsberg21 says:

Yea, so are Forsberg(for Col) Selanne(for SJ) as well as Hull and Robataille.(For Detroit) That is why it’s called good depth. LA has the Deadmarsh Allison Palffy line that has great chemistry. If he went there he would be given shots at playing on the 1st line but would spend most of the time on the second. He played a lot on the second line in Chicago too.
