Another Selanne Update

The Los Angeles Times is reporting that Teemu Selanne will make his decision to retire or not within the next two weeks.

It is also reported that Selanne believes that the Ducks have all of the tools to win a second consecutive Cup and that the recent skating activity does not mean that he will for sure return this season. Selanne is coming off a wonderful season and could fit right in with the Ducks team to rally help them down the stretch and into the playoffs.

If Selanne is skating in Anaheim, it's not a matter of if but more when.

Players have to stop doing this.  There is ample time in the offseason to make a decision as to whether or not you want to retire.  First Niedermayer, now Selanne.  This sucks for Brian Burke, because he feels handcuffed into taking these guys back, and will have to sacrifice a little bit of the teams future every time he does it.

Players should not get the opportunity to do this.  I'm not saying I have a solution because I don't, but it just seems wrong, like these guys knew all along they were gonna play this year, just didn't feel like making a commitment to the team for a whole year.  I dont' care how good you are, no player should have the right to do this.  Gretzky, Lemieux, these guys wouldn't do something like that, so why do Niedermayer and Selanne think its ok.

    let's not panic here…..

Selanne is a great player and has a great history in the NHL, but he is not going to single-handledly bring the cup back to Anaheim.
If he returns, he will bring a good presence and scoring, but he won't guarantee success.
