Underground Rangers RUMOR! DONE DEAL HEATLEY A RANGER!?
Sands writes "Reports from an underground source are coming out tonight in New York that the New York Rangers have acquired Dany Heatley.
Rangers reportedly have dealt Rozival, Zherdev, Defensive prospect Cory Potter, a 1st and 5th Round pick in exchange for Dany Heatley.
I have NOT been able to confirm this deal as of yet. And with what the Rangers gave up for Healtey I would not be surprised if these where False reports. But It is a report non the less. And I figured it should be shared.
Is the Rumor True?
If this rumor is true, the amount Ottawa got back is not that great. Rozival is a solid D man when he shoots the puck, Zherdev gets hot... and then looks like he lost interest in the game of hockey as a whole. Cory Potter.. ahhh nothing seen from him was ever that special. The 1st round pick is the 19th overall. and the 5th round pick is one of 3 or 4 that the rangers have in the 5th.
So if this is true... was it the right deal? I would have guessed that LA could have offered something with Frolov or Vancouver could have done something knowing they will most likely lose the Sedin's and Sundin. The Blackhawks have a solid amount of good young players they could have packaged up... maybe patrick sharp?
so all and all this "deal" doesn't seem like the Hossa for Heatley deal one would have expected.
But we will see.. if this rumored "done deal" is true... the Rangers pulled off another steal... but will this steal pan out this time? god knows the others never did.
Here's hoping this is no lie.
Note:This is not sourced - Just a rumor at this point. Take it as it is ... a rumor. "
PLAYER NEWS
Henrik Lundqvist, G
2010/09/01: Henrik Lundqvist is happy to have a capable veteran backup in Martin Biron for the 2010-11 season. "It's gonna be good to have a guy who's been playing more and is really established," said the Rangers' netminder. "The goal is definitely for me to play a little bit less and for that to help us in the long run." Lundqvist appeared in 73 games last year for the Blueshirts, which tied Calgary's Miikka Kiprusoff for the second most in the league. He is hoping the arrival of Biron will help lessen his workload and keep him fresher in the process. (Source: New York Post)
Tim Kennedy, C/W
2010/08/30: Tim Kennedy has agreed to terms on a one-year contract with the New York Rangers. The deal will earn him $550,000. He earned a $1-million arbitration award, but the Buffalo Sabres waived him and chose to buy out the remainder of his contract, making him an unrestricted free agent. He is not a lock to make the Rangers' roster out of training camp though and will have to compete for an energy role on their fourth line. (Source: New York Newsday)
Tim Kennedy, C/W
2010/08/24: Tim Kennedy is confident that he will find a team willing to give him a contract soon. "Everything I've been hearing has been good, so something will work out," he said. "I'm not worried about not playing next year. I know I'm going to end up somewhere. I'm just going to try to help that team." The 24-year-old said five teams are interested in his services, but he would not reveal their identities. Toronto, Columbus, Los Angeles, Phoenix and Atlanta could be in the mix. The free agent market has a logjam of players waiting for deals, but more activity is expected in the coming weeks with teams preparing for training camp. (Source: Buffalo News)
Tim Kennedy, C/W
2010/08/05: The Columbus Blue Jackets are not interested in free agent Tim Kennedy. Columbus still has plenty of cap space, but they're reportedly done signing players. Buffalo bought out Kennedy after he received a one-year/$1 million contract by an arbitrator. Kennedy had 10 goals and 26 points in 78 games last season and he should develop into a decent player. (Source: Columbus Dispatch)
Todd White, C/LW
2010/08/04: Todd White is still recovering from shoulder surgery, but he should be ready for training camp. White has been skating for three weeks, but he still hasn't been cleared for contact. "(The rehab) is going well," White said . "I saw the doctors three weeks ago and I was cleared to start skating. I've skated a couple of times, passing and shooting. I had the shoulder surgery as soon as the season was done, that's part of not being allowed to take contact. (The start of training camp), that's my goal, that was the plan all along in Atlanta, to be ready. I've been progressing really well. It's just a matter of getting my strength, my range of motion is back." The Rangers traded Donald Brashear and Patrick Rissmiller to Atlanta to get Todd White. (Source: The Bergen Record)
Tim Kennedy, C/W
2010/08/03: Tim Kennedy has cleared waivers and the Sabres intend to buy him out. Kennedy was awarded a one-year/$1 million contract by an arbitrator. The Sabres didn't have the option to walk away from the deal because all arbitrator awarded contracts under $1,611,180 are automatically accepted this summer. Buffalo's decision to buy out Kennedy's contract came as a bit of a surprise given that the Sabres are reportedly well under the salary cap, but GM Darcy Regier has apparently been given a budget that is lower than the cap. Regier said that the team is currently over his allotted budget, but the buyout of Kennedy did help them sign blueliner Shaone Morrisonn to a two-year/$4.15 million contract. (Source: Buffalo News)

Not a Sens fan but if Murray makes this deal he's an idiot and should be fired on the spot. The only thing worth anything coming from the Rangers is the 1st round pick...the rest is overpaid garbage and an average at best prospect.
Sounds like wishful thinking by people in New York if you ask me...Sens would be better off just dealing Heatley for a higher 1st round pick straight up than making a deal with the Rangers and have to take their overpaid crap in return.

Must be a strike happening in New York... Cause Ottawa's picking up all their garbage.....
Then again, Bryan Murray isn't exactly the brightest light on the christmas tree.
IFF for some chance this rumour is true, New York would have 5 guys accounting for $35 million on the cap for each of the next three years. That would be suicide...

it's obviously not ideal, but one would think that the rangers are probably the only team in the league willing to take on that 4 million dollar bonus prior to july 1st. sure they might get a better hockey deal after that, but they lose 4 million dollars.
then you have to think that maybe murray thinks zherdev can be a consistent threat playing with alfie and spezza, and that rozsival would be more deadly hidden in what is now a pretty stacked D (rozsival, phillips, kuba, volchenkov, smith, lee, picard, campoli, eriksson, potter). at least depth will never be a problem on that back-end.
finally, with the 1st rounder, they would likely draft someone like ashton carter, to go with nazem kadri. that's two-thirds of a future scoring line right there, and they'll probably play in the nhl together by the 2010/2011 season.
If this rumor is at all true, then you have to just write it off as a money issue for the sens...

Seems to me this is more wishful thinking, at least I hope so. It's not so bad that I would return my Sens jersey's, but I'll lead the charge for Murray's head at seasons end. I want Steve to come and run the club after he is done with the Olympics anyway.

If you think this deal is bad: Heatley for Drury I hear from hockeybuzz.com. This would be absolute insanity, Melnyk should fire Murray and try to press charges against sabotaging the team. If either of these deals take place, I am effectively turning into a blackhawks fan instead of a sens fan.
The roszival-zherdev deal would be decent if instead of potter, Sanguinetti, Grachev, Anismov or Del Zotto would be offered.

my goodness, this trade is absolutely sooooooooooooo bias in favour of ottawa........NOT.
they get absolutely one of the most overpaid and useless players in roszival who couldnt find his own blueline or opponent to cover.
they get a lazy floater who i guess would be a perfect sub for heatley. indeed they soooo want a me first type of guy.
they get a 1st which by all accounts is fine, but the only good asset here
and they get a noname prospect.......on a team taht has young blueliners like sanguenetti, staal, del zotto to offer.
i have to agreee with everyone else here. this is totally a ranger fan fantasizing. perhaps they should look in the mirror to look at their own excessive bias and pause on criticizing the leafs and hab fans for being that way.

From the sens point of view this deal makes no sense. They are stacked with d-men already, and many are projecting they are gonna take Kulikov/Cowen/OEL with the 9th pick, so why would we acquire an overpaid powerplay d-man when we have a solid set of them already in Kuba, Campoli, Schubert, Picard and Karlsson. Makes no sense, plus there's no reason to acquire Cory Potter as filler for Binghampton. Second, Zherdev is an RFA right now, probly asking for big money (58 pts in 82 games will have him asking for 3-4 mil) which means that in the end, the sens ADD salary and don't get an equvalent or better package in return. The 1st round pick that late is a crap shoot, and no guarantee the sens will get a good player, though their scouting staff has a great history of late 1st round picks like Hossa, Havlat, Volchenkov, Foligno. This is pure fantasy and too similar to the Larry Brooks rumor from a few days ago to have any credibility. Despite what many of you think, Murray is not an idiot and knows what Heatley is worth. In the end, might be worth waiting to see what teams will offer after half his salary is paid and all the prize UFAs are gone. This is a comparable offer from the sens perspective:
OTT gets Dubinsky's rights, Stall, 1st in '09, 1st in '10, 1st in '11, Lundqvist
NYR gets Heatley, Schubert, Auld and a 5th in 2017.

Its funny that Senators fans are saying the Rangers players are over rated and that Rangers fans are over rated them in trades. Yet the Senators finished 9th worst overall and the Rangers made the playoffs. Zherdev and Rozival plus a 1st round draft pick is plenty for Heatly. 72 pts and a -11 last year. That is hardly a franchise player worth more than the previously mentioned package. Especially since he's shown himself to be a quiter when things go bad.

as a ranger fan id rather see that
heatley, right to Neil, 4th round pick for drury, potter, and a 2nd round pick
and we take the 4million dollar bonus off your hands on top it
personally i think the rangers would be giving up to much for rozsival, zherdev etc
this is fairer considering the 4million bonus all the senator fans want to just forget about...thats fantasy to me.... real world doesnt forget about that and the clock is ticking

For years now, everyone who comes to the site has had to read garbage of Steen, Wellwood, Higgins, and all your other crap players that u people dont even want being offered for stars and actually valuable players around the league. Truth be told, any of the rangers "garbage" players u keep trashing would help any of the canadien teams with the only exception being Calgary cuz theyre the only respectable team. Oh and btw, calgary fans are never the ones running their mouths or coming up with insane trades LOL. Its cuz they actually have a good team with great players and dont need to live in dreamland exaggerating about their team trying to past time until theyre actually good. I think the real problem that has u guys all worked up isnt just about this or any other article, its that even a team like the rangers that seem to keep screwing up can make mistakes, and have the means and MONEY to work themselves out of them every time. Just look before the lockout, All u fools were so happy thinking they were finally going to be screwed and all we did was trade away all out bad contracts for the picks and prospects that are all our good players now HAHA. You guys are just pissed because nobody good ever wants to sign in canada and ur teams dont have anything good to trade for good players and now even the good players u have dont want to be there HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
