THENOTORIOUS writes " The Montreal Canadiens will show a new face next season with Koivu, Lang, Brisebois, Bouillon, Schneider, Dandenault, Kostopoulos and fan favorite Alex Kovalev all gone and newcomers Gomez, Gionta, Cammellari, Spacek, Darche and Gill arriving.
The Question is, Who will be the Habs new Captain, Markov? The problem with Markov is, he only said 18 words in the last 7 years , a little too quiet for captain position, Gomez, Gionta and Cammellari are new and I doubt either one of them will be given a the"C" maybe an"A" at best. Latendresse too young, AK is not captain material.
So I think that the habs best choice would be Maxim Lapierre, he has a lot of heart and centers the defensive trio, one of the only habs player to show character every shift. Also he's french and could adress the media every night and by making our 3rd line center our captain would take pressure off our the top end players like Gomez, Camme, Gionta, Markov ect........
My choice would of been resigning Kovalev and making him captain but it looks like Kovy's on his way out of Montreal, I and a lot of habs fans will miss Kovy, it will be weird not to hear the fans chant KOVY KOVY KOVY next season! Imagine how boring the habs would of been the past 5 years without Kovalev? So i would like to wish the best of luck to Alexei Kovalev in his future plans and if you comeback to the bell center in a different uniform "I' will still chant KOVY KOVY KOVY!
Carey Price, G
2010/09/01: Carey Price and the Montreal Canadiens are continuing to progress in their contract negotiations, according to Price's agent Gerry Johannson. However, he added that there is still plenty of work to do before anything concrete can be finalized. Reports that the RFA netminder would go on "strike" if he does not receive a deal that pays him $3 million a year appear to be a bit premature, but stay tuned for updates. (Source: TSN.ca)
Carey Price, G
2010/08/31: CBC-Montreal reporter Michel Godbout says that a "very very reliable source" has told him that restricted free agent Carey Price will "strike" if Montreal doesn't give him a contract worth $3 million per season. Take this story with more than just a grain of salt, but it's worth noting that former Montreal goaltender Jaroslav Halak's deal with St. Louis will pay him an average of $3.75 million per season over the next four years. Of course, despite Price's upside, Halak does have the better track record. We'll keep you posted. (Source: Montreal Gazette)
Andrei Markov, D
2010/08/30: Andrei Markov (knee surgery) has begun skating by himself, according to RDS. He was hurt during Montreal's second-round playoff series against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Markov required surgery to repair a torn ACL in his right knee and he is projected to miss the first six to eight weeks of the regular-season. (Source: Habs Inside/Out)
Jarred Tinordi, D
2010/08/17: Montreal prospect Jarred Tinordi was introduced to the London media on Monday. The Canadiens' first-round pick (22nd overall) in the 2010 draft chose to suit up for the Ontario Hockey League's London Knights over playing NCAA puck with Notre Dame this coming season. "You look at a program and an organization like the London Knights and the way they develop players," said Tinordi. "It's a great city with great fans and it's a great place for me to develop as a player and get to the next level." (Source: Sun Media)
Karri Ramo, G
2010/08/16: The Montreal Canadiens have acquired the rights to goaltender Karri Ramo from Tampa Bay in a trade that sends minor-league goaltender Cedrick Desjardins to the Lightning. Ramo has decided to stay in Russia for the upcoming 2010-11 campaign after posting a 21-17-4 record with 2.11 GAA and a .913 save percentage with Avangard Omsk in the KHL last season. Carey Price, G
2010/08/04: Carey Price's agent, Gerry Johannson, thinks that his client will sign with the Montreal Canadiens by the end of August or early September. Price is currently a restricted free agent. Johannson said that the Montreal Canadiens and him "are not necessarily close, but it's not that we're not close in a bad way. We're having good conversations and we both are commited to getting things done." Johannson also said that Price is seeking a short-term deal. We'll keep you posted. (Source: Montreal Gazette)

I totally agree that Markov is too quiet and it would be too much pressure on him. La Pierre would be the perfect fit for the C. Give Markov an A and also Hamrlik. The other A would go to one of the three new forwards, Cammaleri, Gomez and Gionta.

Just wondering what everyones opinion is on line combinations for next season.
Pacioretty Gomez Gionta A Kostitsyn Plecanec Cammalleri S Kostitsyn Lapierre Latendresse G Stewart Chipchura Metropolit extras: Laraque, D'agostini
Markov Hamrlik Spacek Georges Gill Weber Extras: Emelin, O’Byrne
This lineup is based on the Habs resigning all RFA and no other significant pickups. I do believe that the Habs will pickup another D-Man before the start of the season to fit into the number 4-5 spot.

Wow! I still can't get the fog out of my head with all the changes. I have to think too hard now to remember who is even on the team anymore. They needed to keep either Koivu or Kovalev to be captain. Do you think the room is going to listen to new faces? I am so scared about next season. I pray to the Hab gods that Gainey is low balling both Koivu and Kovalev and hoping they want to stay with less money and reduced roles. You need one of them back. Hopefully Kovy!
Now lets put this in perspective. The Red Wings are successful because they treade alot of talent on their way out for draft picks. The Habs let go too much. for not much in return. I could be wrong but I would like to say that if this fails I would be surprised if Bob is back next season.

I wouldn't like to be a Habs fan right now. I honestly don't think they're much better then the Leafs even ...
Their whole first line is 5'8 and under. Their defense is old, and slow. They have a 21 year old goalie. This team is not going to to score many goals this season.
The Thrashers got a whole lot better this off season, the Islanders didn't do much, but just by adding Tavares they'll be better by default. The Leafs are better. The Habs might be right near the basement floor.
I say they'll finish ahead of New York (Islanders), Toronto, and Ottawa next year, but that's it.
what kind of pain will year 101 bring this storied team.

You people are all on drugs!... Lapierre is NOT going to be captain and shouldnt be!... what a TERRIBLE suggestion. ANNNNND it CLEARLY should be MARKOV!!!.... Who the F*** ever said you need to be extremly vocal to be a Captain........ Hmmmm let's see, this guy named Joe Sakic did fine with the C.... Maybe he should be regarded as a terrible captain though since he was very quiet. What a terrible captain for not speaking. Give me a damn break!.... It annoys me when people make stupid comments like that. "Markov would make a terrible captain, He doesnt speak enough"....First of all your not in the dressing room so you dont knwo what he says, and it's NEVER been a necessity for a captain to always have something to say. Markov is a Top d-man in the league whether your a fan or not, thats the way it is. He should be captain and im willing to bet he WILL BE!!>....... Gomez i wouldnt be surprised to get an A, and youll all argue that because of what>??... his inflated contract??... who the F*** cares. If the guy is a leader it wont matter what his salary is.
