Yes, you may not have noticed, but Dryden did not play at the same time as Belfour, Roy and Brodeur.

Perhaps you have spent more of the last 30 years pissed than Ed Belfour has, which is saying something. Where is Belfour going in Europe as I would like to buy stock in the nearest brewery?

In addition to the hardware, don't forget that he was a 6-time all-star, and is third all-time in wins behind only Brodeur and Roy, and 4 jennings trophies… I don't think he was necessarily a product of good teams but more so the good teams were a product of his abilities, you can always have a phenomenal team and not make it far without a goalie. As a flyers fan I have known this for way too long… Maybe he was temperamental, but he was a really good goalie, All-time I would only put Brodeur, Roy and Hasek ahead of him, No one can honestly put esposito ahead of him, he put netting in between his pads…

yes back in 99 was a huge stars fan just because of Eddie (and Modano) but I remember staying up the night that they won the cup. He used to somehow stop everything that was shot at him. Then he came to the Leafs and my two favorite things at the time were put together, Eddie and the Leafs.

Oh yes 04 was crazy. Always loved it when he helped kick the sens ass. Still HATE Carolina for those shenanigans they pulled. but oh well dont cry over spilled milk

He was absolutely ubeleivable in Dallas. He put on an absolute goaltending clinic in '99 playoffs. Being born in '85 I don't remember his days in Chicago too well. But I do remember him shining vs. Ottawa in the 2004 playoffs, he was definitely the difference in that series.

Great goalie. Definitely an all time great.

Dryden is good, as the guy said, 4th in his ERA, unfortunately dryden doesn’t qualify for comparisson there.

The thing about Belfour that amazed me was that he was even more hot-headed than Billy Smith or Ron Hextall. If he were a forward or a d-man he would be among the hallowed greats like Dale Hunter and Tiger Williams in the penalty minute pantheon.

I will say his performance in the 99 cup finals was one of the greatest playoff performances by a goaltender I have seen. I put it up there with Roy in the '93 Cup run, Hasek in the Nagano Olympics, and, I hate to admit it, Cam Ward in the Sucky Canes run. The Cup Dallas won has a huge asterisk because of foot-in-the-crease Hull, but I think they would have pulled it out on the strength of Belfour's netminding. He was virtually impossible to beat.

Not one of my favorite players but yeah a ring and some impressive hardware is an impressive legacy.

The one thing for me though is that the future and current hall of fame goalies always seemed to play well and made their respective teams contenders because of this. Does Belfour belong in this catergory? Some say yes and some no. I'm leaning towards no but a warrior nonetheless and a Stanley Cup winner.

I never cared much for Belfour either. I was actually pissed he beat out Fedorov for rookie of the year. I do think he was a good goalie not a product of good teams. He played with one good team which was Dallas when they won the, but Chicago he was the main reason they went anywhere, and same for Toronto. I put him behind Roy Brodeur, Luongo, Hasek, Sawchuk, Parent, Espo, and Dryden which still leaves him in the top 10 ever. He's a sure hall of famer and a proven great NHL goalie
