After its all said and done I was wrong. (Thank God) It’s far enough under the 2 million plus estimate I gave. That should be in the Pens goals and a contract should follow soon.
Breaking news out of Newfoundland.
It was just on CBC Radio One 640 AM here in Bonavista Newfoundland that apperently home town star Michael Ryder along with fellow Montreal Canadiens’ prospect Ron Hainsey and a 2006 3rd round draft pick has been traded to the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for Tampa Bay Centerman Brad Richards. They noted that the trade will be formally announced on Monday August 29th when Bob Gainey will speak with the media.
The Vancouver Canucks after signing Mattias Ohlund are getting ever so close to the 39 million dollar cap and they still have some key players that havn’t been signed: Matt Cooke, Jarkko Ruutu

There are alot of rumors flying around with Penguins and their future stars not under contract.
Malone, Tarnstrom, Morozov, Orpik, and Kraft.
Let me try to shine some light on this subject.
The Montreal Canadiens announced Thursday the signing of defenceman Andrei Markov to a two-year contract.
Howard Berger insider for the Toronto Maple Leafs is reporting some trade rumours on Eklund’s site http://hockeyrumors.blogspot.com/
They are as follows:
The East is looking better than either Conference has looked in a very long time. It should be quite competitive with most of the teams fighting fo a playoff spot. This is how i believe the divisions will be stacked up in the East this year…
OK. I have really enjoyed all of the talk about all of the changes the teams have made since we last watched the NHL. However, I am a little frustrated as many seem to have forgotten that we have had TWO off-seasons since Lord Stanley was last hoisted.
TSN.ca is reporting that the Detroit Red Wings have dipped into the free agent market, signing free agent defenseman Andreas Lilja and forward Don MacLean.
Sportsnet reports that Luongo of the Panthers was awarded or punished with $3.2 million next season.
Luongo turned down a five-year, $25 million offer from the Panthers.
On the other hand he can be a UFA in 2 years.
The Islanders are pretty much the laughing stock of the league. The past 20 years has been all downhill since their 4 cups. Their best showing in the last 10 years, a 7 game, first round loss to the Leafs. If you look at who they have had, and gave up for practically nothing, then you will understand why. You can pretty much blame it all on one man… Mike Milbury.
