NewyorkRangers.com released a report that Henrik Lundqvist has agreed terms with the New York Rangers. Accoring to John Dellapina and Larry Brooks, NY journalists, the contratc is believed to be a one year deal worth under $3 million. Lundqvist becomes an unrestricted free agent following the 2008-2009 season.
TSN states it is worth $4.25M.
Confirmed from Pittsburgh in both the Tribune-Review and the Post-Gazette, Sidney Crosby has signed a 5-year extension deal with the Pittsburgh Penguins.
The deal is worth $45 million USD, which breaks down to $9M cap hit for 5 years, but does not come into effect until the expiration of his present contract at the end of this season. The extension pushes back Crosby’s time line, if he eventually wishes to become an unrestricted free-agent, by one year. Sidney is now eligible for UFA after the 2012/13 season is over.

According to NHL Line, Slava Kozlov has re-signed with the Thrashers.
Dallas had offered Kozlov a 3 year contract paying him 3.5 mill per year. Atlanta challenged back paying him 3 years 11 million. Read the article at www.nhlline.ca
The Capitals have signed Viktor Kozlov for two years worth $5M.
TSN reports that the Toronto Maple Leafs signed Jason Blake to a five year deal worth $20.
According to ESPN, the Rangers have signed Scotty Gomez and it is believed to be a seven year deal. More clarification to follow. Sportsnet.ca confirms that the Rangers signed both Scotty Gomez and Chris Drury.

The Florida Panthers have dipped into the free agent market, signing winger Richard Zednik to a two-year deal ($1.5 million and $1.75 million), and forward Brett McLean to three-year deal worth $1.7 million per year.
According to TSN, Tom Poti signed a four year deal, $3.5M a season, with the Washington Capitals.
The Penguins have re-signed Ryan Whitney.
The Atlanta Thrashers kicked off the free agent season with the first official signing.
Sharks Website Reports San Jose Sharks Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the club has signed Center Joe Thornton to a three-year contract extension, which will keep the 2006 Hart Trophy winner in San Jose through the 2011 season.
According to TSN, the Boston Bruins have acquired Manny Fernandez from the Minnesota Wild in exchangefor a fourth round pick and Petr Kalus, a well touted prospect.

It appears as though the Salary Cap for this coming season will be on the rise. While that was already assumed, what comes as a surprise is the fact the cap will be over $50 million.
According to the Globe and Mail, the new cap number for the 2007/2008 season will be 50.3 million. The new cap floor will be 34.3 million.
It’s that time of the year again where the GMs play and the players relax, at least…most of the players. It must be quite a feeling to be a player…say of Ryan Smyth’s caliber and just sit on the couch, looking at the date and say to yourself “Man, in three days I will be destined to become a millionaire.” How about that huh? Anyway, some teams to look at.
Jim Balsillie is apparently losing the bid. Sure, the NHL will risk moving to Kansas City, but who gets the blame?

According to TSN.ca, the Florida Panthers have re-signed Jozef Stumpel, as expected, and the Vancouver Canucks re-signed Jeff Cowan. Stumpel signed for two years worth $4.5M. The Canucks re-signed Jeff Cowan to two years for around $1.5M, total. Also, the Canucks are expected to buy out Marc Chouinard.
TFP reports that The Nashville Predators have traded G Tomas Vokoun to the Florida Panthers for draft picks.
