We all know that the Montréal Canadiens were struggling, with only 2 wins at their 12 last games (including losses to Atlanta & Buffalo recently) and something had to be done to shake this team.
We all heard that coach Michel Therrien has been fired and replaced by Hamilton Bulldogs’ coach Claude Julien, but according to ”Les Amateurs De Sports, AM 550” André Savard only took the decision after the loss against Philadelphia. And if Montréal had won the game, Therrien would still be behind the bench today. The source also stated that firing Therrien was the ”PLAN B”…
Left winger Luc Robitaille was a healthy scratch for Thursday’s game against the Avalanche. And has left the question: Are Lucky Luc’s days in Hockeytown numbered?
A New Start
The Thrashers start what will hopefully be a better era for the franchise. Certainly can’t be worse than before. The team started off very well under their new coach. The question now is will they keep up this type of play and learn from their coach, or will they fall back onto those very familiar bad habits. Time will tell, but at the very least Thrasher fans now have a bit of hope.
The Bruins recalled forward Martin Samuelsson and Defensman Rich Brennan from Providence of the AHL today according to BostonBruins.com. The team website reports that Samuelsson will make his NHL debut Wednesday night against the Panthers. He was Boston’s 2nd pick, 27th overall in 2000 NHL Entry Draft…Brennan is a 30 year old veteran with eight years of pro hockey experience with six different NHL franchises. Wednesday will be his Boston debut as well….

Canadiens fire Therrien
The Montreal Canadians have fired head coach Michel Therrien, according to RDS.
There is a news conference scheduled for noon et today.
TSN has learned that Claude Julien will take his place behind the bench.
Julien was coaching the Hamilton Bulldogs, the top team in the American Hockey League. The Bulldogs are a joint farm team for the Canadiens and the Edmonton Oilers.

(Jan. 14th) –- The Atlanta Thrashers have hired Bob Hartley as their new head coach Tuesday. Hartley, who replaces Curt Fraser, was fired less than a month ago by the Colorado Avalanche after a disappointing 10-8-9-4 start.
In just over 4 seasons with Colorado, the Thrashers new bench boss went 193-109-48 and he was the first NHL coach in 35 years to take a team to the conference final in his first four seasons
A goalie that was never given a chance until rudely misused by his 1st team and put on the expansion draft.
Back up goalies don’t get much credit, and are never mentioned. HEY! They are still part of the team.
A player with skills, is playing on his 12th season, and had seven 30+ goal seasons.

As if there weren’t enough Kyle McLaren trade speculation already, the Boston Bruins’ trading today of netminder John Grahame to Tampa Bay for a draft pick will fuel even more rumours that the B’s are on the verge of another big move.

(The Fourth Period.com) Avent Media Group Inc., owners and operators of The Fourth Period have announced their intention to bid for the Ottawa Senators. The Senators filed for bankruptcy protection January 9th and will be sold at auction on January 24th.
Avent Media will seek to purchase the restructured team and keep them in the city of Ottawa. The company has opened the bid to the public, and is seeking to raise CDN$60 million.

In Dallas’s 6-3 win over Colorado on Saturday, Stars defenceman Richard Matvichuk suffered a fracture in his leg and will be out of action for 4-6 weeks, most likely.
This opens a new door for Dallas, who might be looking for additional help on the blueline. Is McLaren headed to Big D in exchange for a checking forward like Pellerin or Malhotra?
