Leafs trying to trade Holland

Players that the Canucks could move at the deadline

The Canucks could potentially trade Burrows, Ryan Miller, and, if they ever wrap their heads around a full-tilt rebuild, Jannik Hansen, Alex Edler and, yes, the Sedin twins.

Will Gallant coach the Knights?

Panthers fire head coach Gallant

The Florida Panthers have relieved coach Gerard Gallant of his duties.

The 53-year-old head coach joined the team in June of 2014. In his first season, he led the Panthers to a 38 win campaign and 91 points.

According to TSN hockey insider Bob Mackenzie Florida has also fired assistant coach Mike Kelly. General Manager Tom Rowe will be taking over head coaching duties.

Canucks looking for scoring

Nick Kypreos suggested that, despite Vancouver’s placement near the bottom of the NHL standings, they’re not giving up on the season and are in fact looking to acquire more scoring.

“It doesn’t appear Jim Benning and the Vancouver Canucks are ready to mail it in any time soon, they’re looking for scoring,” Kypreos said. “A lot of teams are looking for scoring. Of course, you’re going to have to move something substantial. Teams are calling for Chris Tanev right now, but Vancouver is saying he’s not available. You can pick as many as you want on defence here, but that’s one player we’re not prepared to go down that route with just yet.”

Radulov thinking long term in Montreal?

With off-season acquisition Alexander Radulov proving a fast fit with the Montreal Canadiens, his agent is reportedly prepared to consider a long-term extension with the club should general manager Marc Bergevin be interested.

“He likes Montreal and the fans have quickly adopted him. I don’t see why this relationship can’t continue,”

Canucks done talking to the Sabres about Kane … for now

Potential Coaches for the Knights

Coaches with NHL experience who could be in the mix include Bob Hartley and Kevin Dineen. Hot prospects include Phil Housley and Trent Green. One intriguing possibility: former Edmonton Oilers Ralph Krueger. He was the media darling at the World Cup of Hockey because of the job he did with Team Europe. His entertaining personality, coupled with his thorough coaching style, would make him an ideal choice for an expansion team.

Pens would like to hold on to Fleury

Dave Molinari: I’m not aware of any rule that would prevent the Penguins from trading Fleury between the end of their playoff run and the expansion draft, but they would have very little negotiating leverage if they put off doing something with Fleury until then. They definitely would like to hold onto him — their playoff run this spring underscored the value of having two quality goaltenders — and the best way to make that happen would be to work out a deal with Las Vegas under which that team would agree to not draft Matt Murray if he’s exposed in the expansion draft. (Fleury, by nature of his no-movement clause, must be protected.

Kings don’t want Kane

Sabres won’t let Kane go for a steal

Here’s what it sounds like happened with Vancouver, Buffalo and Evander Kane: There were a lot of assumptions the price would be low, that the Sabres would be so desperate to do this that the Canucks would get a steal.

Sabres GM Tim Murray made it clear that would not be the case. (Neither team would comment.)
