Latest Rumors from around the League…

Here are the latest rumors that are circling around the league….

Thrash Talk: MVP goes to the training staff

I had planned on making this a short article. For those of you that know me, you know that wasn’t very likely. But I will at least keep the opening short for once. Let’s begin, shall we?

Should Ottawa be setting their sites for a goaltender???

Many people believe that what the senators need to win the cup is to get a little tougher and, from recent rumours about Bondra, add one more talented forward.

I’ll admit watching Ottawa play is a treat. They have so many players that can burn you and the defense looks solid. (Chara moves so well for a big guy.)

The Importance of a good Stay-At-Home Defenseman

It’s vital for a National Hockey League team to have a couple of good stay-at-home defenseman in their lineup.

A stay-at-home defenseman is a d-man who has a defense first attitude, will rarely join an offensive rush, and does not pinch in the offensive zone. These are the guys you don’t see scoring too many points, but can hold together a defensive unit and get a team to the playoffs.

Some Trenchant Observations

Well, the Avs-Oilers game just ended (need you ask who won?). What did we learn?

1.) Outshooting a team does you no good if your shots are all from the perimeter.

No Goalies Safe this Trade Deadline

By the sounds of things the trade deadline this year may involve a lot of trades involving goaltenders. Goaltenders such as Martin Biron, Dominik Hasek, Curtis Joseph, Dwayne Roloson, Manny Fernandez, Mike Dunham, Jeff Hackett, Sean Burke, Nikolai Khabibuilin, Trevor Kidd and Olaf Kolzig have been rumored to be on the move.

Clarkie Cookin Something Up – Amonte out 2 weeks

Last night on Comcast Sportsnight it was said that the Flyers were in talks with two teams regarding goaltending.

The first team is the often mentioned Caps. The offer that Comcast said the Flyers put on the table was Therien and Hackett for Kolzig.

Gonchar Out for a Month…

Sergie Gonchar, one of the most sought after defenseman, will be out for a month at least. He suffered a second-degree shoulder ligament tear.

I Smell A Big Fat Payday

Associated Press reports:

Washington Capitals owner Ted Leonsis grabbed a fan by the neck and threw him to the ground after being taunted throughout the game during the team’s home loss to Philadelphia on Sunday.

Could the Devils move?

This may sound impossible, but there is actual speculation that the defending Stanley Cup champions may move in the near future.

Rangers booed at home charity event

Interesting article in today’s New York Times about the Ranger fans towards their team in the Sather era (error).

Will Clarke finally get a Goalie for the playoffs??

Or will the Flyers be forced to rely on their future goaltender in Robert Eshe? Or even worse the OVERRATED Jeff Hackett? Lets face it, the Flyers need a goalie as bad as the Eagles need a Wide Receiver.

Shoulda Coulda Woulda Been: 2004 All-Stars

Well hockey fans time to pull the ratings away from the Super Bowl in February (who likes football really?) with the 20….04 NHL All-Star game. It’s a time when most hockey fans are happy. Usually cause their ‘model’ hockey player is going to show his madskillz. Or disgusted with their favorite teams record. Elated or not there a still some bones to pick with this years break.
