Andrei Markov is in the last year of his contract and is scheduled to become an UFA at season’s end. This is a tricky situation for Bob Gainey and the Canadiens. What should they do?
After hearing Saku Koivu talk at yesterday’s golf tournament, Habs fans should have reason to be worried. As much as the Habs brass show’s confidence that Koivu will be fine, inside they are shaking in their boots. What does Gainey do. Does he go into camp and see if any rookie is ready to make the jump ? Does he see if Kovalev or Higgins can play in the middle this year ? Does he look to make a deal ? Does he put his confidence in Bonk to play on one of the top 2 lines ?
In this day of multi-million dollar NHL contracts and players being singed to outrageous deals they will never be able to earn (see: Pavol Kubina), there are still a number of rising talented players who command less than $1,000,000 per season. Of course, most of these guys are rookies or are in their second year, but I feel I should still commend them.
Ilya Bryzgalov, who led the NHL in goals-against average, save percentage and shutouts during the playoffs last spring, signed a two-year contract to remain with the Anaheim Ducks
It is past time to put Sundin on a short leash either he does something for us or we trade him while he has some minimal value.
For all you Sundin lovers what has he really done for us. This supposed superstar is not even averiging a point a game as a Leaf, the only time he has had over 100 points was playing with sacik thank you sacik for making him look better than he is.Sundin is only as good as the players around him.
After reading and partaking-in many discussions, I decided to look up some of the leafs prospects.
Asking myself, are the leafs really as deep as we, in Toronto, think? Or do we suffer from the normal delussions of the local fans believing their talent is the best?
We certainly can’t say that about our team at the NHL level.
“Twelve-year NHL veteran Tim Taylor has been named the eighth captain in Tampa Bay Lightning history, it was announced by Lightning Executive Vice President & General Manager Jay Feaster. Additionally, the Lightning’s assistant captains will be Vincent Lecavalier and Brad Richards, Feaster announced. Lecavalier had served as an assistant captain the past three seasons, and Taylor wore the “A” the second half of last season following the departure of previous captain Dave Andreychuk.”
The Newark Star Ledger confirms that Jim Dowd is close to signing with NJ.
According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Penguins super prospect, Evgeni Malkin, will sign a maximum entry level contract tomorrow at a press conference. So the saga concludes!
First off I Wanna say im very excited about this upcoming season but these past few months, hockey talk has been quite boring .. So i wanna start something up and bring my opinion to your minds .. SECONDLY i wanna back up Hal Gill because every post i look at .. everyone is bashing this signing and bashing him all together. This guy has been a +56 the 3 seasons before the lockout, he played for a HORRIBLE Boston team last season and STILL only had a
-4 rating .. Our Beloved Lindros was a -3..Klee when he was with the leafs was a -8 Lets take a look at some stars and see there +/- rating .. hmm 1st off Ryan Smyth -5 .. Sheldon Sourey -11
Jovanovski -8 .. Boyle -8 .. Pronger ONLY a +2
Our Leafs McCabe and Kaberle -1 .. Kubina -13 ..
BEST of all everyone loved the signing of the 2 time Selke award winner Michael Peca .. yeah he was a -4 aswell .. nobody bashed him .. most of the league struggled last season because nobody truely knew what to expect .. now with adjustments we’ll see some change
Honestly Gill isnt as bad as everyone seems .. hes the perfect stay at home defenceman the Leafs truely need. We all know he isnt a guy who will put up points and we honestly dont need that
so go ahead and bash because some may not like my opinions but im stating facts like it or not.
NOW here we go .. lets talk some trades and such
If i was to be asked if the Leafs would make the playoff’s this season, i would honestly have to say yes simply because they have improved there team, they made all the right moves by letting go of the right players and bringing in the right players .. maybe not the right prices but none of us can say anything .. its simply not our money .. but if it was my team for a day here is what i wuld honestly do.
Since Nashville is curriently shopping wingers .. the 1st thought that would go through my head is screw Carter. for the amount of money he wants .. it aint worth it .. c’mon 3 mill for a guy who played along side 2 great skilled playmakers last season and only put up 55 points, he truely isnt worth it.
Ferguson should seriously take a look at Nashville’s wingers .. He should offer a deal like this
To Nashville : 2nd Pick in 2007..5th pick in 2008
To Toronto : Erat OR Hartnell
I Know we need a “star” for Sundin but honestly these 2 guys played on the 2nd/3rd line for Nashville last season and put up some pretty nice numbers (48 for Hartnell, 49 for Erat)
Erat is starting to show he can be a capable playmaker. I think he would excell on Sundins wing. Hartnell could be a nice powerforward for Sundin aswell .. but honestly i believe we need a playmaker or scorer who will match up nice with Sundin .. but Hartnell would fit nice on a line with Peca and Tucker .. that would be the perfect shutdown line.
Some other deals/ signings i believe ferguson should think about is this
Sign Daze to a 1 year deal worth around 1 million
Make An Offer to Morozov for 3 years worth 1.5
Any Other opinions on what the Leafs should do .. send away!
