Aebischer Out, Belfour…Out ?

According to the Detroit Free Press..

A team spokesperson said Wednesday that the situation between the Red Wings and unrestricted free agent Ed Belfour remained unchanged.

Biron Back With Buffalo

Goaltender Martin Biron has accepted his $2.1-million US, one-year qualifying offer from the Buffalo Sabres, **even though he has asked the club to trade him.**

Souray Requested to be TRADED!!!

Sources say on the Team 990 Sports Rage, Gabriel Morency more specifically, that Souray wants out of Montreal. Also Gainey has agreed to grant this request from the D-man. One particular reason for this request is obviously for Souray getting closer to his daughter who lives in L.A. with his ex-wife. Detroit for now would be a most logical destination maybe in a package deal with Abby. Never say Never with Gainey!

In defense of JFJ!!!

This article is an attempt to defend JFJ and his moves as G.M.

Ill start with the players that remain from the starting roster that he inherited: Sundin, Stajan, Kaberle, Kilger, Ponikarovsky, McCabe, Pilar, Antropov, Tucker.

Samsonov a Hab !!

Bob Gainey was busy today as he made 4 moves which I believe will improve the club substantially. TSN.ca reports that Gainey has signed UFA Sergei Samsonov, re-signed RFA David Abeisher, Picked up Mike Johnson from Phoenix and dealt Zednik to Washington.

Habs re-sign Aebsicher to a one year deal

According to TSN.ca, as well as the Canadiens web page, Bob Gainey has signed the goaltender to a one year deal. While financial terms were not disclosed, NHLPA’s website has Abby’s salary as 1.9mil, the same as last year, meaning he accepted his qualifying offer.

Samsonov (2 year deal) & Johnson to Montreal, Zednik Traded to Washington

RDS.ca claims the Habs have signed Sergei Samsonov to a 2 year deal (amount of money unkwown for now). The Habs also traded ealier Richard Zednik to the Capitals of Washington for a 3rd round pick to then acquire from Phoenix Mike Johnson for 4th round pick.

Greg Malone leaves Penguins, could this mean Ryan Malone is trade bait?

http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/06193/705282-61.stm

Greg Malone, father or Penguins forward Ryan Malone and head scout for the Pittsburgh Penguins, has left the team. He is the first personel move by Shero. Could this be because Ryan Malone is not in Shero’s plans? Maybe he is on the list to be traded for a player that is to much for another teams cap room. Gagne from Philly comes to mind.

2006-2007 official schedule released

http://www.nhl.com/schedules/index.html

NHL.com has released the schedule for the 2006-2007 season. It follows last year’s format of each team playing the teams in its division 8 times, the other teams in its Conference 4 times, and 10 games against the other Conference. This years inter-conference format is as follows:

Habs Rant

Canadiens GM Bob Gainey hasn’t given up on upgrading his team through free agency. Gainey confirming to CJAD’s Abe Hefter that although the Habs lost out on the Brendan Shanahan sweepstakes, he believes there’s talent remaining out there that could help the Canadiens, up front. Gainey, at the Martin Lapointe Arena to watch the prospects take to the ice, says it became pretty clear that unrestricted free agent economics would prevent the Canadiens from signing more than one player. And with plenty of wiggle room left within the salary cap, there’s money to spend — for the right player, added the GM.
