Badnews for Bell

I was up set when i read this beacause Heatly might be getting away with it.He’s is taking chances away of possibly futur stars, he should be punished! The news is not good on the injury Toronto Maple Leafs’ defenceman Brendan Bell suffered Sunday night.

Sources tell TSN Bell was left with a laceration of his calf muscle in addition to a bone bruise. The combined injuries will immobilize Bell for 10-14 days and will likely keep him out of the lineup for a minimum of three weeks.

Bell was slashed in a “two-handed” fashion in an exhibition game on Sunday by Ottawa Senators star Dany Heatley.

Heatley was not penalized on the play, however NHL disciplinarian Colin Campbell admits the incident is being reviewed.

Campbell rarely acknowledges on-ice indiscretions unless a suspension is pending. So, it appears Heatley may have dodged the NHL’s wrath.

Bell represents the fifth Maple Leafs defenceman sidelined by injury in training camp.

Tomas Kaberle, Pavel Kubina, Staffan Kronwall and Carlo Colaiacovo are all nursing ailments that are all expected to be re-evaluated this week

My guess on Bell’s future is that he is part of a package deal somewhere else, maybe as early as this trade deadline, or possibly next summer.

There are some good young D-men in the Leafs system, and he is one of them, but he is too far down the depth chart when you consider that they have 4 guys tied up for at least 3 years on D.

To add to your post…the NHL has in fact decided NOT to take action against Heatley for the incident.

    Adding further insult to injury.

Dany Heatley insists it was an accident.

The skilled Ottawa Senators winger yesterday claimed he in no way deliberately attempted to injure Brendan Bell during an exhibition game in Halifax on Sunday.

Thanks to Heatley's hack, the young Maple Leafs defenceman will be forced to spend a minimum five days wearing a cast on his left foot and using crutches.

I have a hard time beliving that what he did was an accident.

Bell is just lucky he wasn't riding shotgun with Heatley driving.
