Bashing European players….especially as Captains
One too many times have I heard the red-neck comment of “The Leafs will never win the cup as long as a European is their Captain”….are you kidding me?
To those who feel this way; you couldn’t be any less educated; you have NOTHING to base that on whatsoever:
Doug Gilmour = Canadian = no Leaf cup
Wendel Clark = Canadian = no leaf cup
Darryl Sittler = Canadian = no leaf cup
Rick Vaive = Canadian = no leaf cup
…..So tell me; why is it that Sundin being European means the Leafs won’t win the cup with him as Captain? Last I checked those Canadian Leaf captains that didn’t win the cup for the Leafs were half decent players.
Are you telling me Nicklaus Lidstrom isn’t a good enough Captain to lead Detroit to the cup? In the words of Martin Brodeur “These guys are dominant players, and so most of the time your best player will be your captain, more often now you’re seeing Europeans wearing the “C” ” Are you telling me that you know more about hockey and the value of dominant European players than Martin Brodeur?
Hockey may be a Canadian game; it may be “our” game but DO NOT ruin the growth and expansion of the sport by throwing in your uneducated red-neck and almost prejudice comments that have no weight or value to them whatsoever, other than making Canadians look like bigots.
Many say they lack heart, but are you telling me that there’s no Canadian or US born players that lack heart? Tom Poti, Alexander Daigle, Keith Tkachuk, Jason Allison, Kyle Calder…all are labeled as “no heart” players in many peoples opinion. Are you saying Koivu doesn’t have heart, or Sundin, Lidstrom, Ovechkin, Kipprusoff? Try and prove that none of them have heart….it’s simply a case by case issue but unfortunately there’s red-neck North Americans who get defensive when Europeans come into the league insist on jumping on them as soon as one of them slips up and shows a lack of heart.
How about this, most of the goons in the league are North Americans….does that mean North American hockey players lack play making talent…obviously not, it’s a case by case, player by player issue.
