Hi all

First post here but I write as an expert for the site fantasyfanatics.com Its a cool site you should check it out if you are in to fantasy hockey. I think there are 2 differences to the Jones hit that should have required a longer suspension. First, instead of hitting the guy straight on from the back, which is what we find in most hits near the boards, Jones, intentionally, drove Bergerons head directly into the boards. I find that nearly as malicious as Bertuzzi driving someone's head into the ice. I also think you need to judge the length of Bergeron's injury in the suspension of Jones. He was seriously, almost life threatening, injured because of an extrmeely dirty play by Jones. Therefore, I would think Jones should be suspended for at least half a month, which is the minimum time Bergeron will be out.

Ahh i see how it is. Only when it happens to your team do you cry about it. But when your team does it, like Alberts, Bergeron, and now PJ, you resort to name calling?

It doesn't make them clean. A hit to the head is a hit to the head. You still have players missing games from these hits and the player causing the injury doesn't even get a penalty. I am not trying to take out the hitting but when players use their elbows to hit a player in the head it is wrong.

Apparently P.J. Axelsson has learnt nothing from what happened to Patrice Bergeron. As Volchenkov was battling for the puck in the corner during the second period, he was hit square on the numbers by P.J. Axelsson. Axelsson was only assessed a two-minute minor penalty but it should’ve been more. He should’ve been out of the game. Volchenkov did not appear to purposely turn into the hit, he was actually hit into the hit, believe it or not. There was nothing Volchenkov could do to avoid it and P.J. did not slow down as he pasted Anton. Volchenkov is lucky he was not closer to the boards or that could’ve been ugly. Something really has to be done about hits from behind. P.J. is normally a stand-out guy with good hockey sense but he should be ashamed of that hit. If I was Chiarelli and I was engrossed in a battle in the media about hits from behind, I would probably bring this up with P.J. at some point.

No suspension i'm assuming either... always judging the results and not the play...

What do you have to say about this Hockeyhead? Or will you deny this as a dirty hit and pretend like nothing happened and it was all blown out of proportion?

Please.. tell us..

Ok, no one seems to understand that saying Bergeron put himself in a bad position is NOT blaming him for anything. Clearly, they are both skating very fast and when they come into contact, Bergeron's head is already at the same level as the base of the glass. Bergeron obviously knew Jones was there and that there was a very good chance that Jones was going to take the body and try to rub him out of the play. I completely agree that what Jones did was stupid and he should know better, but I also think that he had no intention of injuring him.

So there, i never defended Jones, he made a bad hit when he didn't need to, but you also have to admit that Bergeron put himself in a bad position. If you get mugged in a bad neighborhood at 3 in the morning, of course its not your fault that you got mugged, but what the hell are you doing in a bad neighborhood that late at night? You dont put yourself in that situation. If Bergeron had stayed upright or had turned sideways to play the puck, knowing Jones is less than a foot behind him, he would have just taken a check and the game would have continued. Ive played hockey, its not easy to stop when your skating into the boards, especially with someone right in front of you. Jones obviously made a bad choice, but Bergeron should also know better than to put himself in that type. And you can counter with Bergeron was just doing his job to play the puck to another teammate. Well, Jones was trying to do his job of taking the body and rubbing him out of the play. They just both did it poorly.
