Best One-Two Punch, Part Two

Again, the idea here is pretty straightforward: you tell me which team in the West has the best top 2 lines. But, you will probably need to make some corrections to my list as well.

I’ve compiled a speculative list of the top two lines in for each team in the West.

NOTE: this list is not perfect. I’ve probably got misspellings. I’ve probably forgot to account for a trade or FA signing or two. I’ve incorrectly speculated some on who might move up to fill vacated roster spots. I’ve been using cbssportsline, and they don’t even have the BlueJackets listed as a team, and their out-of date depth charts are wrong (e.g., there are apparently TWO Keith Tkachuks on the Blues roster; Koivu no longer plays for Montreal; and the Stars have Turco, Tugnutt, AND Belfour on the roster).

Set me straight on my mistakes and tell me who’s the best two lines in the West:

Calder-Zhamnov-Daze

Bell-Nylander-Sullivan

Sanderson-Knutsen-Marshall

1-I have to go with Colorado`s with the exception of Reinprecht instead of Vrbata.

    2-Detroit`s is pretty close.

3-Dallas with the newly acquired Guerin.

  2. bruinsfan12 says:

I would have to say Columbus. By far.

  3. regdunlop says:

Colorado is #1 hands down. Dallas should be second if turgeon can repeat his success with young.

FYI laperierre plays on the 4th line for LA.

  4. CaptainSteve says:

You messed up the Wings top two lines. First, in this years playoffs, the wings went with Shanny-Segrei-Yzerman, Devereaux-Datsyuk-Hull, and Luc-Larionov-Holmstrom.

Hopefully with a full recovery from steve, the lines will go Shanny-Sergei-Holmstrom, Luc-Steve-Zetterberg, and the two kids and a goat (Dev-Dat-Hull).

I think Dallas looks like the top, though I think that Arnott will be playing third line, modano centers, and morrow plays the left. Col is nasty too. Edm and phoenix are sitting pretty as well. CAN T WAIT!

  5. Habfan1234 says:

I don’t think that cooke is ready for the second nor will he ever be. I think that either Herik Sedin or Harold Druken will be the team’s second line centre but the first line is bang on.

Heres what the first two lines of Vancouver may look like:

    Bertuzzi-Morisson-Naslund

    Hlavac-Sedin/Druken/-Linden

  6. slipnaughtyboy says:

ummmm almost Every team is wrong. Well nearly, everyteam. But good try tho! (note: Im not being sarcastic).

Dallas as it stands now has best….. If Young and Turgeon reconnect, those 2 lines are by far the best 1-2….. Colorado’s is close as well…

Ill fix the ones that are clearly wrong….

    DET

    Robitaille-Yzerman-Shanahan

    Datsyuk-Fedorov-Hull

*well…. theres so many options, but it was Devereaux-Datsyuk-Hull, and Yzerman-Feds-Shanny in playoffs.

    STL

    Tkachuk-Weight-Mellanby

    Stillman-Demitra-Drake

*they only had Demitra play center a bit…. hes on top line instead of mellanby

    CAL

    Petrovicky-Conroy-Iginla

    Lowry-Savard-Clark

*MCAMMOND!!!!Conroy-Iginla…. how could you get this wrong, when Mccamond was #3 in scoring with 50+ points??? They did only have 1 line… oh and this year, 2nd line should be Gelinas-Savard-Kobasew

    COL

    Tanguay-Sakic-Hejduk

    Vrbata-Forsberg-Drury

*Switch Vrbata with Reinprecht… and reinprecht was playing center, altho that will change

    EDM

    Smyth-Comrie-Carter

    York-Marchant-Cleary

*Marchant is always with Grier and Moreau. New 2nd line center is Dopita. Cleary wont be there either, more likely Hemsky or Rita… DUH!

    MIN

    Brunette-Zholtok-Gaborik

    Dupuis-Roest-Laaksonen

*Zholtok???? ITS RONNING NOW!!!!! Plus Zholtock plays wing….. adn Roest=Dowd

    VAN

    Bertuzzi-Morrison-Naslund

    Hlavac-Cooke-Linden

    * 2nd line changed alot….. Linden between Hlavac and Chubarov… but that will change too

    LA

    Deadmarsh-Allison-Palffy

    Heinze-Laperriere-Smolinski

    * well now that Ronning’s gone you COULD be right, altho Smolinski will be center, and Bednar could see time on wing.

    Anaheim:

    Kariya-Oates-Sykora

    Bylsma-Cullen-Kjellberg

*Try LECLERC THERE BUDDY! He did get a 20 goal season, theyll probaby move rucchin to wing because Mcdonald should center there 3rd line.

  7. sabotage says:

Come on now, give the Oilers a little credit. Marchant has never been a 2nd line player, he’s a pure 3rd liner.

This is actually what it looks like currently :

    Carter-Comrie-Smyth

    York-Dopita-Hemsky

York and Dopita are locks, however Hemsky’s addition all depends on how much he impresses Mactavish and company in training camp and preseason. Either way, that looks like a great (and relatively cheap) 1-2 punch to me.

(Also remember Calgary signed Gelinas, which would put him likely on one of the first 2 lines)

Actually I think faceoff.com or something has line combo’s already…

  8. rrudd says:

    TOTALLY forgot about dopita. thanks.

(says to self: idiot, idiot, idiot)

  9. Sundinfan says:

    ahahahhahahahahahhahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahhaahaha

  10. Kariya-09 says:

    1.Colorado(dont have to explain)

2.Dallas(with Guerin and Young its very obvious)

3.Anaheim(i think they can have 2 solid lines with oates-Kariya-? and Sykora-Rucchin-?

  11. Rotty says:

the best 2 lines not only in the West but in

    the NHL belong to Colorado.

Sakic,Forsberg,Drury,Tanguay,Hejduk,Reinprecht and Vrbata….line them up how you wish!

oh yeah and St.Louis has Keith Tkachuk and Daniel Tkaczuk.( only one Keith )

  12. vanfan says:

i think that alot of people forget about how well bertuzzi played with the twins. their play together gives more options, such as…

    hlavac morrison naslund

    d.sedin h. sedin bertuzzi

    cooke linden letowski

schaefer* druken klatt *i here he is about to resign.

    bertuzzi morrison naslund

    schaefer druken cooke

    hlavac linden klatt

    d.sedin h.sedin letowski

  13. Modano_Fan says:

I gotta think that if things work out the way Dallas thinks they will, then Dallas deffinately has to top two lines in the West. If Turgeon and Young reconnect along with Lethinen on their line, then your looking at a # 1 caliber line playing on the 2nd line.

Modano Guerin and Arnott are just an awsome and it gives Modano two solid winners. If both these lines connect the way I think they will,Dallas will be hard to stop.
