Bieksa in demand

With Kevin Bieksa fitting so seamlessly with Dan Hamhuis as a shutdown pair, it seems in*****bent upon the Vancouver Canucks to re-sign him this summer. They would miss Christian Ehrhoff’s big shot, but if he walks away, so be it. They still have Alex Edler as their No. 1 guy, and maybe they could bring back Sami Salo for a reduced price. The kid who’s going to wedge himself into lots of playing minutes next year is Chris Tanev. They’ll have to live with Keith Ballard’s $4 million a year for four more years.
This ‘n’ that: – If the San Jose Sharks, who need help on the back end, were to offer winger Devin Setoguchi and, say, defenceman Jason Demers for Flames’ Robyn Regehr, would Calgary do that? Regehr isn’t quite the dominant shutdown guy he was, but he’s only 31. He’s got four good years left. The Flames could use some younger blood . Regehr has two years left at $4 million per season. Setoguchi is a Group 2 free-agent making $1.8 million. Demers makes $1.25 million starting next year.

The Sharks/Flames trade sounds fair. I wouldn't need to see another defenseman coming Calgary's way since they are so deep at that position. Another forward equivalent to Jason Demers instead would be a go for me.

Demers would be a nice cheap option. I like the idea of getting some new blood in the system. I like that trade. Not sure the Sharks would want to give up both but I'd take that from the Flames end. Worst case, you just flip Demers.

Now that Tim Erixon decided not to sign in Calgary, maybe they do have a spot for Demers. The locals are rather P.O'ed about having to trade one of our few good prospects for a couple of picks.

  4. reinjosh says:

That was just a brutal situation. What could Feaster have done though? Erixon didn't want to play for them and he held all the power. At least he got two 2nds and a prospect. It's more than if Erixon had just walked.

  5. FlamingHomer says:

That's exactly the feeling in Calgary. You would think the scouts would have asked him about playing for the Flames. Unless he was originally keen and changed his mind.

Someone is going to over pay Bieska and immediately suffer a UFA hangover, I just hope it isn't Burke.
