Big names on the move

It’s that time of year again in the National Hockey League where there is tons of movement happening. At this time of year some big names get traded, others get resigned and others opt to hit free agency on July first. It was highly speculated that PK Subban would be traded and that trade finally came to fruition this morning.

Subban was traded from the Nashville Predators to the New Jersey Devils in a deal that saw him get traded for Steven Santini, Jeremy Davies and two draft picks. While on paper it may seem that the Predators did not get much in return for him, they were able to free them selves of Subbans huge contact. As far as the Devils go, they were able to add a huge name and super fast puck mover to their team that is transitioning to a speed game. This weekend along they were able to add Subban and draft Hughes, the top prospect in the game. Another trade that has just gone down is that the Toronto Maple Leafs were able to unload Patrick Marleau in a deal which saw him get traded to the Carolina Hurricanes for a sixth round pick. This move is huge for Dubas and the Leafs as they were able to unload his contract so that they were able to free up more cap space so that it will be easier for them to resign on of their top players, Marner.

On the rumor front, the Colorado Avalanche are listening to any and all offers on Tyson Barrie. Barrie who is from the West Coast has been linked to the Vancouver Canucks. It is rumored that the Avalance have tried to get Jake Virtanen as past of any deal, however, Canucks management are hesitant to give up on Virtanen as he is poised to have a break out season and have invested heavily in his development.
