actually, the leafs played pretty well defensively last year, but raycroft and aubin stank it up.

I think the leafs were in the botton 5 for shots allowed.

Well I know you've overlooked Philly upgrading a lot this summer. They gain an experienced team captain, a young Joffery lupul, they get Briere who can score.

Briere, Gange, Knuble, Smith, Hatcher, RJ Umberger these guys can all put the puck in the net. They have Biron now who I think made Miller a much better goal tender today. Miller and Nittimaki is a GREAT 1-2 punch, Nittimaki proved that he is amazing but he can't play the majority of games in a season, it's too much wear and tear. I hope Philly can beat some of the teams that play them from our division (Montreal, Buffalo, and even Ottawa).

Toronto DID get better, but I was hoping for Paul Kariya, not some older guy who may just phizzle out.

I really like this deal and more importantly I like the way that JFJ went about it. When you look at what Blake accomplished last year 4 mil a season (aveage) is a good deal. The front-loaded contract is perfect in terms of what the Leafs needed now and what they will need in the future. Paying him progressively less over 5 years will afford the leafs more and more cap room as Blake ages and his production possibly declines. I think he'll fit in great with the Leafs and more specifically on Sundin's wing. I would love to see them get a second-tier scoring right winger. It's not like there isn't any available. Long story short, even if the Leafs don't make any more moves and go with the team they have now I feel confident that they will at least make the playoffs and have the talent to make a run. Good job JFJ, and, as always, GO LEAFS GO!!!!

All we need now is Bertuzzi! Sign him for 2 years 2-2.5 million!!!!

    Lines

    Blake Sundin Bertuzzi
    Ponikarovsky Wellwood Antropov
    Tucker Stajan Steen
    Bell Pohl Devereaux/Kilger

    Kaberle Kubina
    McCabe Colaiacovo
    White Gill

    Toskala
    Raycroft

Trade ethier one of Kilger or Devereaux and that looks like a playoff team to me!!! 😀

The average age of the Toronto Maple Leafs is 26.5 years old why are people still on the old kick man get over it.

You clearly dont are just talking to hear yourself

the leafs missed the play-offs last year by one point, and also had the most man games lost to injury.  there best PP goal scorer was injured for part of the season, and I will admit the Raycroft deal was a bust last year, but now he is splitting time, he should play better.  The leafs will be competitive this year if for no other reason then Buf lost two of their most vital pieces of their team, Montreal hasnt done anything to improve, and still have Kovalev, Boston hasnt done much this off season, except trade for a goalie (Thomas played well last year, but faces a million shots) and ottawa.. well, they still got much work to do.

therefore, TO has as much of a chance @ 1st place in the division, and will fight for the 4-6 seed

Whats wrong w/ 4 mill for poni and antropov?   both have clearly shown to play well together, both are strong on the puck, and in the offensive zone, and with the right center can combine for over 50 goals.  Like the rest of the leafs, injures are the only issue that has to be resolved with these two.

You sit here and chirp just to hear yourself and because you are a major leafs hater.  This signing hasnt put them over the top (obviously) but it is a step in the right direction, and with a few more moves, they will be set up nicely for the season

    are you lost buddy???

we have sundin, and even @ like 36 he's still an elite center.  and if you dont think so who captains Team Sweden every time??  yea Sundin.

get a map, cuz your lost bud

  10. LEAF_FAN_1990 says:

great start this offseason…..if JFJ can sign couple more players like guerin and bertuzzi we can compete for the cup for sure. this would have to involve trading some d to make space. imagine this lineup:

    Blake     Sundin     Guerin
    Tucker   Wellwood  Bertuzzi
    Poni       Steen      Antropov
    Pohl       Deverux   Stajan

    McCabe   Coliacovo
    Kaberle    Stralman
White      gill/belak/woz/harrison (who ever earns it in camp)

    Toskala
    Raycroft

I think this team can compete for a stanley cup

  11. brott says:

You might want to look at the guerin idea…   Serious. before you throw lineups together check to see if theve JUST signed with someone.

  12. Penssuck says:

    Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

  13. Penssuck says:

Isn't that the guy that trys really hard to be something he isn't?  Like a top line center?

  14. Steve362 says:

move stajan to center the fourth line…. deverux is out and bell is in

  15. Jrugges says:

    Blake-Sundin-Tucker
    Bell-Wellwood-Ponikarovsky
    Antropov-Stajan-Steen
    Kilger-Pohl-Deveraux

    Kaberle-Kubina
    McCabe-Coliaciavo
    Gill-White

    Toskala
    Raycroft

This team looks playoff bound so far. They've got the winger now. Second/Third line scoring looks promising. Looking real solid in goal with Toskala and Raycroft just incase. Raycroft my actually be used as trade bait later in the season now.

  16. leafmeister says:

Trade Rayzor and sign Nagy 3.5 and sign CUJO

    Nagy-Sundin-Blake
    Antro-Wellwood-Tucker
    Bell-Steen-Poni
    Kilger-Stajan-Pohl

    Kaberle-Kubina
    Colaiacovo-McCabe
    White-Gill

    Toskala
    Cujo

That has the scoring and the defence to get us to the play-offs and the grit to get us through them!

  17. DoubleDown says:

    keep using those translators buddy

I am not sure why people are so negative about every move this organization make, yes they have made some poor decisions in the past but to me both Toskala and Blake are the better moves under the current circumstances. I am 100% sure that JFJ is not done as yet and he is definitely going to move a defenceman and Razor before Season opener. I do believe this is going to be a better team compared to the teams we had in past two years they are going to make the playoff for sure.

First off, i am not a fan of Blake, but the more i think about it the more i like it.  This offseason the Leafs have turned themselves from a hard team to play against, into a very hard team to play against.  As much as people complain, the Leafs needed a guy who can put the puck in the net.  Blake is another player who doesn't mind getting a little dirty, and he can finish.  I'd like to see a Bertuzzi deal go down, and maybe move Raycroft, and Kubina/McCabe.

    Blake           Sundin            Bert.
    Antro            Welly              Poni
    Tucker           Bell               Steen
    Kilger           Stajan             Devereaux

This team would not be very fun to play against.

  21. Hoondog2 says:

What about Raycroft and Kubina/McCabe to the Devils for Elias?

They desperately need someone on defense.  I don't know what the Devils goaltending future looks like, but if there was someone for Raycroft to learn from, it might as well be the best goalie of all time.

I think the salaries would be pretty even as well.

  22. fernz says:

good signing, but da leafs also signed battaglia, but how much money do they have left???????

  23. mojo19 says:

    523 goals – 29th all time
    1238 pts – 34th all time

At the age of 35 he scored over a point per game last season. Name 30 centres who did that and I'll call him a number 2.

  24. mojo19 says:

last year aside, he scored 25 and 21 goals the 2 years before that. Try him on the 2nd line, if he gets going he could be a big solid 2nd line player

  25. brott says:

Never happen. Come on guys realism… just a bit… its yout kind of leaf fans that give REAL leaf fans a bad name.
