Blockbuster in the Works?

Rumors are starting to circulate in Florida; Jokinen’s name has come up.

When Jokinen signed the 5 year deal with Florida he was under the impression that Luongo would be their goalie and they would have a chance of making the playoffs during his new contract. With Luongo gone, it seems highly unlikely that the cup will be finding it’s way to Florida, unless TB brings it.

Now Jokinen is a classy player and thus it is doubtful that he will ask for a trade, but Florida management certainly isn’t going to want a player who doesn’t want to be there. But more importantly, the Panthers are extremely cheap (ie Roberto Luongo). If they can get young talent and draft picks for Jokinen then they would most definetly take the cheap way out.

What team would have enough to trade for him, what team could afford him. Not many teams can accomplish one of those feats let alone both, but Anaheim can.

Jokinen FOR Ryan, Bryzgalov, 2nd rdp

Jokinen would ensure stanley cup contention for the Ducks. Bobby Ryan is going to be a top winger in the league and since Florida has a wealth of young talent he would fit in nicely. Bryzgalov would be an excellent candidate to take over the #1 spot and Auld could settle into a backup role. The 2nd rdp may be a bit too much going to Florida, a 3rd would be more realistic. Fans have yet to comprehend how important draft picks are in the new NHL, teams can’t afford to throw them around anymore. Oh and Sebastion Caron can take over the backup role for the Ducks.

If the trade were to occur this could be the new Anaheim team:

Kunitz Macdonald Selanne
Jokinen Getzlaf Perry
Penner Marchant Niedermayer
Moen Phalsson Thornton

Pronger Beauchemin
O’Brien Niedermayer
DiPenta O’Donnell

Giguere
Caron

I put Olli on the wing because he’s not the best at faceoffs and on the wing he could use his size to his advantage when cutting in.

Burke is too smart to make that trade.

The problem with that trade is two fold:

    1) This leaves Anaheim with an obvious #1 and obvious backup, whereas the Ducks, and the Sabers ,have been showing the rest of the NHL that a system closer to a 1a and 1b setup can be the better way to go, especially if injuries hit (think of Edmonton's run last year…)

    2) Trading Ryan makes no sense.  With him in the system, along with guys like Macdonald, Kunitz, Perry, Getzlaf, Anaheim has many of the pieces needed for a great dynasty.  I'd have no problem with them dumping a prospect, but the asking price for a future Franchiser like Ryan should be very high.

I would love to see Jokenin in a habs uniform. He is the big centre weve been looking for. Furthermore he is finish just like captin K.
Doubt it would happen, but it woudl be nice.

I'm a Sens fan at heart but were good friends with the family of Joe DiPenta and would love to see the Ducks get better…..just as long as they dont get another D-man!!!
And Dont worry Leaf Fans Red-Light Raycroft will start playing like himself soon and you'll miss the playoffs again 🙂

Jokinen already said that the reason he signed a multi year contract is because he wanted to stay in florida for multiple years and if he wanted to be traded he wouldn't have signed that contract.

Everybody I was on Hockeybuzz.com and some people were pcsting that the Ottawa Senators should trade Peter Shaefer for stumpel and somone else said Jay Bouwmester and someone said Gary Roberts and Martin Gellinas instead of Stumpel I would like to see the Ottawa Senators trade Peter Shaeffer for Gary Roberts and Martin Gellinas!!!!!

    Here is a trade susgestion.

    To:Ottawa Senators
         Gary Roberts
         Martin Gellinas
    To:Florida Panthers
        Peter Shaeffer
        1st round draft pick
So the Ottawa Senators would get two vetern  with leadership guys and who both have grit and are great when the playoffs come around amd won't make that much because they are  free agents at the enc of the season and Ottawa Senators get what they need for the playoffs and the Florida Panthers get younger and they get a first round draft pick they build for the futer that is why it is a win win trade!!!!!!!!

    What does everybody think?

    Wishful thinking.

    Jokinen won’t be going anywhere.

First of all, ARE YOU ON CRACK?!?!?!

    Secondly, use some punctuation.

    Thirdly, ARE YOU ON CRACK?!?!?!

While I would absolutely love to see either Roberts or Gelinas (especially Roberts), though probably not both, in a Sens uniform there is no way in hell Muckler would trade a second line left winger entering his prime and 1rst round draft pick for two old players who will probably retire at the end of the year.  Muckler is old but not senile.

Maybe it would go down like this
    To Ottawa
    Roberts (or Gelinas)
    To Florida
    Hamel and a 3nd pick

You don't think getting Jokinen is high return? He is a game breaker on his own, at any time he can explode for 2 or 3 goals.
I think the trade makes sense. The ducks would be very scary by adding Jokinen.

  11. MogilnyFan1990 says:

that would be so great if ottawa got Gary Roberts and Gellinas for Peter and a 1st rounder…  that way they can start rebuilding because their team will suck and they wont go far.  Shaeffer is a good player.   Getting two oldtimers will just ruin your team, so go ahead.

You're right, old habits die hard… Raycroft could flop again, much like how the Sens continue to choke when it counts most…you Sens fans are hoping the Leafs don't make the playoffs because you know you can't beat them in the spring. 😀
