Blockbuster Trade Coming?

The “reliable” Eklund of Hockeybuzz is reporting that if the Calgary Flames don’t turn around their season this weekend something BIG will happen. Here
is how the trade should look like:

To Philadelphia:
Jarome Iginla
Tim Ramholt
Dustin Boyd

To Calgary:
Simon Gagne
RJ Umberger
Claude Giroux

The top players in this trade are Simon Gagne and Jarome Iginla, this will give Philly a new winger to play with Peter Forsberg and give Calgary a new face to their franchise.

I may have spoken too soon saying the hockey media has not been so bad as far as trade rumors.

Iginla is the franchise player for the Flames. Gagne is not the franchise player for the Flyers.

That trade won’t fix anything for the Flames, it’s just a meaningless swap that still leaves the Flames without a reliable center. That’s all that Flames really need right now. A reliable center.

Ecklund should take that into consideration. But if he is right (i am not betting on it) then Sutter ought to be fired.

    Iginla is a winger…

  3. WestCoaster says:

He never said Iginla was a center stupid.

may i ask why.  I can't say enough about ramholt or boyd, but i know what the flyers are trading away, and i dont think they are getting anything good out of this.  Iginla for gagne is basically the same production but for an older, more costly player.  The flyers shouldn't trade for iginla, if anything, get younger, or someone less costly.  Umberger has developed into a solid 3rd liner, could even be playing on the 2nd if they wanted him.  He has a big strong frame, strong on the puck, just needs some time on his stick handling.  everything ive heard about giroux is that he is tearing it up and looks amazing, why trade him?  if anything, the flyers should look to trade for young talent.  Id love for them to have a top 3 pick and get a guy like esposito who people are saying could put up numbers like crosby.

not even close. the flames won't stack their left wings like that, they need a center. Top line Centers and 3-4 defencemen are needed and hard to find on the trade market, goaltendters are staked on the trade market.
i think philly may trade forsberg for iginla, but even that leaves phily with no number one center. i think Jason Allison is the best option for the  Flames right now. meanwhile i think Atlanta should try to get Conroy from LA. they've got 2 great goaltending prospects to offer up, plus an extra defenceman

  6. PaulK123 says:

O, when he said it leaves dem without a meaningless center i thought he was talking about Iginla leaving, my bad, sorry

  7. leaflova says:

    what about the salaray cap???

  8. PaulK123 says:

im just the messenger, blame eklund XD

  9. Andy-O says:

Is this the answer? I mean Philly has talent but zero heart. They need to act and act fast before the season is out of reach. A huge problem that was never solved is goal tending. They haven't had a solid goalie in net in a over a decade and that is the biggest problem. Next, you have forwards that arn't finishing and d men constantly on their heals.
I think the Flyers GM should learn from the Phillies GM when they (Sillies) trade up Abreu; and look what that did for them, it turned them into a contender.
Something will be done, but being that Holmgrem is fighting to secure his job I doubt it willbe this. He doesn't want to be the guy that traded away his best player.

  10. Andy-O says:

Tim Ramholt and Dustin Boyd for RJ Umberger? Listen this trade is crap Umberger is one of the few with heart on that team.

  11. habswinthecup-again says:

Iginla is twice the player that Gagne is. There is no freakin' way that Sutter trades Iginla away. Gagne or Forsberg on the other hand I believe is gone soon.

  12. gg_idiot says:

I really think that Philly will be trading for defencemen or goalies that can make a huge difference now

  13. PhanufRoxs says:

I honestly don't get why you would make some major changes that 1, wont help your team, and just screw things up. 2, Both of these teams are going down hill and should make some trades for younger players, and with players like Esposito, Tavarse, Turris, etc elligable to be drafted in the next to years, why would you make a huge effort to get things together?

  14. burnz30 says:

I don't think Philly will make a trade until their GM situation is settled. Besides, I don't tink this a very good tade for the Flames, they need a center. I think they should trade some of their defencemen depth for a good center. Iginla is the heart and soul and the face of that team.

  15. cippard says:

    NO! plain and simple
Sutter has said he's not willing to trade kipper, phaneuf or iggy!

  16. TheDonkey says:
I think it is still a little early for them to be looking at dumping Iginla.  And if they eventually do, it won't be for Gagne.  Iginla is way better than that guy.  Besides, the Flames biggest problem is depth at the forward position.  Swapping one for one is not going to help.  Their problem is that they have maybe one line that can score.
If Calgary dumps Iginla, they are admitting that they truly suck and are destined to be a bottom feeder fo years to come.  If and when they move him, it will have to be for several young guys with potential.  It will not be for another big name established player.   It will be rebuilding time for the Flamers.
  17. papichulo71 says:

I could see Regher + Lombardi getting packaged for Gomez.

  18. wingerxxx says:

What a horrible trade for Calgary.  If the Flames pull the trigger on that deal, every fan in Calgary should call for the heads of the entire Flames front office.  Nothing against Gagne, but he is NOT Jarome Iginla.

  19. blarneylad says:

    Iginla over gagne any day

  20. Doctor says:

Iginla is 3 or 4 times the player Gagne could ever be.

  21. Doctor says:

Really? That's so odd. I just heard Calgary was talking to Minnesota and if all goes well this weekend will trade Iginla for Daigle. You heard it first.

  22. FLAMESOWNU says:

The whole reason we need a top center is to set up iggy..

  23. FLAMESOWNU says:

    LMAO good try Eklund

  24. bleeds_blue_n_white says:

What the Flyers should do is trade Ed Snider for a Happy Meal and a smile.

What an absolute travesty this owner has been. There is no team here. The Flyers have been succeeded at times despite themselves, and I do not need to get into all the debacles involving Snider and his son-in-law/former GM Bobby Clarke, but his latest stunt of offering the GM Job to Colin Campbell is yet another indication that this team will not success until he is no longer affiliated with it.

How do you feel if you are the the "Interim" GM and you read in the paper just a week or so into your term, about how your owner is offering the job to someone else.

Great organizations start at the top. The same can be said for poisonous ones.

    Just my $0.02

  25. Les-Habitants says:

Iginla? If you see that name, or Kipp, you know the trade is full of shit.  And while Gagne is not as untouchable as Forsberg, he is close.

Finally, we all know hockeybuzz is unreliable, they only get some rumors right because they make soo many damn guesses.
