    Good deal for the Jackets.

  2. zdeno_duchesne says:

great deal both ways. denis is going to make the lightning a great team again.

  3. CrosbyMalkin66 says:

Why not tell the people the team he was traded too.. i knew it was the lightning but i dont think everyone does

  4. mikster says:

I sya horrible deal for the Blue Jackets. My guess is that they have their bets on Pascal Leclaire to start, but the Jackets also have to realize that it is time to make the playoffs, or get very very close to making it.

Modin gives them a good winger, not spectacular.

I think Denis has been one of the most underrated goalies in the league, playing behind a horrid team. Tampa gets a very good goalie and loses a winger that is replaceble.

  5. magnifikko says:

I guess this kills the rumor of Aebisher going to tampa….poor habs, no St.Louis for you LOL

  6. Komisarek says:

Fair trade for both side, assuming Modin performs in Columbus.

Can anyone tell me why I can’t leave commetns on the Habs rumor section ? When I try to leave comments, it doesn’t work, I don’t ge the box to leave comments, kind of stupid

  7. Jrugges says:

well, gives the jackets a legit second line winger. Give’s them a second line to pose a threat. Also should help out there Power Play. Don’t see how it helps make the playoffs. There are rumors that chicago is after Pronger, and jackets are in a division pretty much ran by detroit. Its unlikely they can get past the preds with the goalie they have now.

So far to me, this trade doesnt make sense really. Jackets where in a hole, and they just dug themeselves father. Now they gotta go out and get a goalie. Maybe free agents like Giggy or Gerber where on there minds.

  8. Tweek says:

great deal for the lightning. they really needed a tender and I think denis is pretty underated.

  9. LeafyMcLeaf says:

No, these are Canadians reading this, not everyone is from Pittsburgh like you, they know who Modin plays for!

  10. habsoverserver says:

on the habs stuff – dunno.

  11. EasternHockey says:

Fine by me, I wasn’t to keen on the idea of getting a small, $6.5mil/year forward who had one decent season.

  12. LeafsLeafsLeafs says:

Replaceable by any other team not the prospect weak Tampa Bay Lightning.

  13. dvast8 says:

Marc Denis isn’t underrated.. Hes overrated..

There was a reason he was the backup in colorado, and wasn’t kept around to take Roy’s place.

He was getting outplayed by the backup goalie in Columbus.. thats why the jackets got rid of him.. He played himself into expendability..

the bolts have alot more wrong with their team than their goaltender. Kubina forgot how to play defense this year.. and essentially they have poor play out of their best defensemen. I think they thought the new rules was going to make the NHL highflying like the 80’s. I guess they forgot you still got play some defense to win. No wonder they just BARELY made the playoffs.

  14. Guinsfan87 says:

They have Leclaire who outperformed Denis this season

  15. Air33 says:

he’s trying to help your article, dummy.

  16. LeafyMcLeaf says:

Tampa got raped! Modin is a great finnisher!

  17. Mainer87 says:

Tampa are not the sharpest knife in the drawer but I got to give them credit that they did go out and get a decent goalie. I think it would have been better if they would have traded with the habs but o well. Maybe the jackets will want to trade with the habs to get abby. I doubt leclaire is 100% ready to step in. Good trade overall.

  18. 2buxaslice says:

Denis is very streaky just like Grahame. When he’s on he’s great but when he’s off, he’s terrible. Teams are defined by their goaltending and with a Denis – Grahame combo, I expect the Lightning will be a very streaky team this year. Definitely not a contender.

  19. habsoverserver says:

My guess is Tampa never offered St. Louis for Aebischer.

  20. NiittymakiForVezina says:

Geez you’re acting like if you start as a backup you can never be a starter.

  21. blarneylad says:

Montreal doesnt need another RW anyways, we need a proven C, one who can get gritty, sorta like arnott maybe, or the habs could trade aebisher for a C, rumours of Robert Lang from Detroit!

  22. tacitus says:

Look at Cam Ward and Jussi Markanen the 2 last goalies to play a game this year. Neither one is proven. Look at Bryzgalov in anaheim. The team that has been winning or atleast makes the finals is usually a streaky goalie’s team. There are only 3 great goalies in the league, Luongo, Brodeur and Kipper. After that its a crapshoot, Osgood can streak out Turco who can streak out Miller, who can outplay Fernandez. Then look at the young unproven guys with Ward, there is Niitimaki (spelling), Lundqvist, Huet. Goaltending is a gamble unless u have one of the big 3 and if u have one of the big 3 then u only have 35 million to spend on the rest of ur team

  23. FlyersfanKyle says:

    yeah rumors on what…ps2?

  24. FlyersfanKyle says:

really Roy was a backup at one (breif) time

  25. PastParticiple says:

What the hell Columbus was thinking about by trading Denis. They have no more goalie and they trade their no1 goalie to a team that have proved that you can’t win without a great goalie …

I don’t understand this one altought Modin is a great scorer.

Is Aebisher going to Columbus ?? 😛 for Fedorov ?? Nah Nash ?? Maybe Zherbev ?? Don’t even dream about it

But still, for Tampa its a normal trade, but for Columbus .. its horrible

  26. magnifikko says:

Anyways whos that zherbev guy??? i hear about habs trading sourray and perezhogin for this guys, whats that about? for a fact i know that ganey has already stated he will not trade his young guns.

  27. wingerxxx says:

I can’t believe that Columbus couldn’t get a better deal for Marc Denis. Modin is a decent winger…but come on. I don’t know much about the goaltending prospect…but for the near term, unless Modin can put up 30 or more goals, Tampa clearly wins this trade in the near-term.

  28. wingerxxx says:

I think that Zherdev is untouchable. At least for now. I wouldn’t trade him for Souray and Perezhogin to save my life. He doesn’t get a lot of exposure, since he plays for the Jackets, and he is still adapting to the NHL…but his skill level is unreal. He and Rick Nash are going to be carrying the torch up front for the Jackets in the years to come.

  29. LeafsLeafsLeafs says:

Modin is a good player, is this another case of you hating the leafs so much that a former leaf feels the brunt of your pain?

I don’t think Doug McLean is stupid.

  30. wingerxxx says:

You’re overreacting just a wee tad.

I don’t think MacLean is stupid, but some of his personnel decisions have been questionable. This is one of them.

  31. OilersRush says:

The reason the Avs dealt him to Columbus was because they were going to lose him anyway in the expansion draft.

They were not going to protect him over Patrick Roy, and they had to choose who to keep Denis or Aebischer.

It was better to trade Denis for a 2nd round pick then to watch Columbus or Minnesota take him for free.
