Blues may bring Arnott back to help
Perhaps one way to solve new problems is with old answers, literally and figuratively.
With Vladimir Tarasenko, Alex Steen and Andy McDonald out of the lineup with injuries, with veteran leader Jamie Langenbrunner out for the season — and with just 27 games remaining in the regular season — the Blues are considering bringing back center Jason Arnott.
Arnott, 38, met with coach Ken Hitchcock on Saturday evening in Dallas and skated on Sunday morning at American Airlines Center. Arnott played in 72 games with the Blues last season, scoring 17 goals and 17 assists and finishing a plus-13.
Arnott has played in 1,244 NHL games with six different teams, scoring 417 goals and 521 assists.
His time with the Blues did not end especially well. Arnott was upset about being a scratch for Games 3 and 4 of the Western Conference semifinals with the Los Angeles Kings, and he made no bones about it.
However, Arnott met with Hitchcock to air things out and discuss a possible role with the injury-limited Blues. General manager Doug Armstrong then met with Arnott on Sunday morning. The 6-foot-5, 220-pound center will join the Blues to participate in practices during the remainder of a current trip, which includes stops in Los Angeles, Phoenix San Jose and Anaheim.
“I talked to Jason’s representative (late last week) and he said he still has that burning desire to play,” Armstrong said. “It made me start to think, if you’ve accomplished everything he has, and you’re into March and you still want to play, you have the passion for the game.
