Blues looking to trade Christian Backman.

According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the Blues are expected to trade a defenseman before the trade deadline. Right now, Backman seems the likely target. He has another year left on his contract worth $3.4 million, with a Cap Hit of $2.3 million.

What team do you think might want him? The Wings are said to be looking for more defensive depth, I wonder if he would fit what they needed.

Would you want him on your team? If so, what would you give up for him?

Trust me – you don't want this guy on your team…

i could see him in philly – just cuz his style of griddy play fits in the locker room and philly could use some more defense.

    to st.louis: sundin

to toronto: backman, perron, and a 1st, and 2nd round draft picks

I love how any on post, even one about trading Christian Backman, someone brings up the Leafs. This article is supposed to be about Backman, and all that happened was some idiot decides that that player has to be in a package for Sundin. I really can't stand it anymore. I guarantee you that the is 100% no chance Sundin is going to St. Louis. Learn hockey before you comment!!!!! Its really annoying how you gay Leaf homos always bring them into the mix. I say we should start a non-leafs trading website because according to some of the retards on here Sundin is going to all 29 teams in the league. Where is Backman going? and for what? I say he stays somewhere in the west, and hes not going to fetch alot, maybe a 2nd rounder plus a 3rd or 4 liner. Thats it thats all folks. ***** the LEAFS!

    will not happen…

Backman is in no way "griddy". He is an offensive defenseman that is not very good on offense.

As a Blues fan, I would say 'no' to that deal… especially since Sundin will likely sign with the Leafs in the offseason.

As a Habs fan, I'd love to see Backman's gritty play on Montreal's D. Question is, what to give up? The Habs D has the likes of Markov, Komisarek, Hamrlik, O'Byrne, Bouillon, Streit, Dandenault, Brisebois and Gorges.

I'd offer the Blues Gorges(smallest Habs D contract) and a 2nd Rounder for Backman and if they did in fact take it, I'd then shop Bouillon around for a 4th Round pick because with Backman he's no longer needed.

I'd then fulfill Dandenault's apparent request to be traded to open another roster spot for O'Byrne's return. I'd want a 4th Rounder though I'd try for a 3rd.

Then Montreal's D would look something like this:

WELL SAID. With all the dumb proposals ive been seeing lately from the laffs fans i wouldn t be surprised that they write sundin raycroft and ian white for lecavalier kari ramo and dan boyle oh and tampa adds a first round pick and a second round pick. lol dumb laffs fans

In all fairness, and I barely defend the Leafs, my article DID ask what your team would give up for him… then again, the previous poster chose to throw him in a package for Sundin… kinda negating the whole purpose. and his trade was ridiculous as well.

  12. bernonedown says:

yeah thats what i mean, the point was to see what backman is worth to other teams, not just some throw in for some big name player

  13. CommonSense says:

If the Blues got an offer of Georges and a 2nd for Backman's contract, they would likely take it.

Why do people think Backman is a gritty player?? He's not.

The Wings dont want Christian Backman even thou he is Sweedish…..I think he is from the crappier side of Sweeden where the B-rate players are produced…Backman wouldnt even crack the Redwings lineup…maybe behind Derek Meech and Kyle Quincey would Backman see action as a Wing….

Backman to the Wings would be as significant as Cory Cross was…my bad i wouldn't trade Cross for Backman, atleast Cross played for cheap

  15. BruMagnus says:

    haha, that was funny!

  16. iamnewfie1 says:

include the canadiens in that proposal as well, too many silly blogs on here about montreal ,their are other teams out there…
