Blues offering Colaiacovo, Kariya, Tkachuk

By Mark J. Miller

Keith TkachukThe NHL has a trade freeze that starts on Friday due to the Olympics and then is thrown open briefly for the first few days of March after the Games end. It’s looking like the thirteenth-place St. Louis Blues are trying to get rid of defenseman Carlo Colaiacovo before then, according to TSN.ca.

The Blues are apparently readly to listen to offers for a lot more than just their 27-year-old defenseman. Paul Kariya(notes) and Keith Tkachuk(notes) will both be unrestricted free agents this summer and the team, which claims its still in the fight for a playoff spot, is apparently open to trading either.

Tkachuk could probably be had for a first or second round pick.  Same with Kariya.  I'm not sure about Colaiacovo, though.  Any ideas as to what he'll go for?

The days of Tkachuk getting a 1st are gone, plus he has never lead a team anywhere in the playoffs. karyia, same as Tkachuk, however he has gone far in the playoffs, once. Carlo is tuff to gauge, depends maybe on if a team has the want to possibly resign him.

I agree. I dont think either of those two (Paul or Keith) get a 1st rounder. No way.

I definitely overvalued them, and I knew it when I was typing it, but I figured it was safer to overvalue them and be told to go down a little bit than undervaluing them and being bashed and told that they were still good.

I wonder if they would be interested in Kaberle.
Depending on how the Olympics turn out, Backes could pay himself into untouchable territory. But if he were available I would love to get him. Maybe Backes and a 1st? Then use that first to grab Granlund, Sheahan or Watson? Maybe thats too much for Kaberle, I don't know but that would be a very nice return if we could get it.
Then trade Poni for Caputi and a 2nd. Grab Christian Thomas.
Trade Stemps for a second if we can get it from Buffalo and grab Brad Ross.

Someone had said Stl was interested in Kabs, but who knows. As for backes I really do not think he is going anywhere. he is a UFA after next season but Stl has cap space. I am not sure what we might be able to get out of them? Maybe Perron and the pic, he is a RFA. We could get more if Burke were willing to eat Brewers contract which is up after next season. Who knows what will happen. I think we are not going to get what we are hoping for Poni either, just a hunch though. As for Stemps I think a 2nd would be amazing. I know what the market is showing teams getting, but trying not to get hopes up. They are also paying Berglund a lot of money and maybe a scenery change helps?

If it were me, I wouldn't trade Kaberle for anything less than Backes or Oshie. I don't think Perron or Berglund are worth it at all. If need be, I would take Backes or Oshie by themselves for Kabby.
