Bolts trade for Sydor

Sydor has 15 points in 49 games played this season.

Sportsnet has learned the Columbus Blue Jackets have traded veteran defenseman Darryl Sydor to the Tampa Bay Lightning.

In exchange for the former Stanley Cup champion the Blue Jackets receive Alexander Svitov and a draft pick.

More to follow…

—–

Svitov, a young prospect, was in the doghouse of coach John Tortorella since awhile now and has never been known as a hard worker.

Tortorella once said the following after sending overweight Svitov to their affiliate AHL team: ”I hope he rots in minors”

This kid reminds me alot of Pavel Brendl. Good trade for the Lightning.

Not to toot my own horn, but remember for the last 2 months when I have been saying that the Islanders won’t deal with a team so close to them in the standings, but everybody else said that Hamrlik to the Lightning was a done deal???

Well turns out it wasn’t. Tortorella had no right to say that of Svitov, but he was basically right about him. Excellent deal for a good defenseman.

  2. mikster says:

Very good deal, and you never know now if Svitov will be motivated. Who isn’t in Torturella’s doghouse besides St. Louis and Grahame?

Johnny will not last that long. You know what happens to coaches like him…..a coach like that doesn’t deserve much respect.

  3. BayStBully says:

Might as well ship him off, the Bolts aren’t the best at developing talent. Vinny Lacavlier would’ve been twice the player he is today if he had been developed properly.

  4. wheresthesoda says:

actually brendl has been playing well for the canes since his recent call up

  5. koolcory77 says:

Hey, this just happened. The Leafs pulled off an amazing blockbuster deal with the Caps . Here’s the deal:

To Maple Leafs: Bondra, Gonchar, Lang.

To Capitials: Berg, Jackman, Colaiacovo, Perrott, Belak, 1st rounder, 2nd rounder, future considerations.

  6. nocuphere says:

    You’re fucking joking right?

  7. Donovan says:

    Bullshit!

If its true than fuck the Leafs. Thats too much shit for two Free Agents and Lang.

  8. nocuphere says:

Dude!!! That can’t be true. They wouldn’t trade both those D men on game day. Not to mention fuck that is right!!

  9. Lint07 says:

yeah I saw the news you submitted.

no source whatsoever, I checked everywhere and there is no truth to this story, just another wishful Leafs fan trade.

btw, you changed a few names between when you posted the article and this comment… Wasn’t it supposed to be a ”done deal” at 3:00 this afternoon?

    nice try.

  10. Lint07 says:

yes, but he’s been known to be a lazy overweight bastard in 2 teams before being traded to Carolina…

Maybe Svitov will spark up eventually too.

  11. Kashin says:

Good trade for both teams but Columbus needs to get defense down the line. But they have a good core to build around with nash zherdev and svitov. It is an environment which he will step in right away.

  12. wingedim says:

Hell I’d love to see Gonchar at least in the ACC, but not at that price!! Get your head out of yer ass.

  13. HabsNick says:

Well, here’s to Colombus giving up on this season and planning for the next.

  14. kovalev says:

keep dreaming, you leaf fans are hurting big time

  15. Donovan says:

I mean honestley, what the hell are you talking about. Either your another dilusional Leafs fan, or a dick that hates the Leafs. I’ve spent the last half hour looking for this and have found nothing. Put a God-damn source next time.

Now as for the trade, its probably the worst I’ve heard. The Leafs give up 5 players and two picks for two Free Agents and Lang? Now granted Perrot, Jackman, and Belak are trash but Berg is playing like a top 4 d-man, and Coliacovo has mad potential. Not even Mad Mike would add two picks and lets not forget about future considerations. Unless the considerations include Witt, Zubrius, Grier and Carter, no way! The Leafs have a good top six as it is. Why would they add Bondra and Lang? Bonda alone fine, but Lang would play on the third line!

What will really happen? The Leafs will make an offer for Gonchar, and possibly even Bondra, but the odds it happening are less then KoolCorry making sense.

  16. MantaRay says:

Good for the Bolts to get rid of a kid who is too lazy at times to realize his potential.

Tortorella is a very demanding coach, which is why the Bolts have been competitive the last few years.

If you play hard you play, if your lazy you ride the pines. That is the mark of a good coach. Demand excellence.

Sydor? I don’t think he is much to brag about. He doesn’t have the support he did in Dallas and he is questionable in his own end. At least , this is a wake-up call for Boyle and Kubina that they too have to produce.

    Good trade for both teams.

Check out the guys name Donovan, anyone with koolcory as their tag line ain’t right.

  20. nocuphere says:

OK I agree with you 100% about the leaf trade, but moron, you’re a hab fan. I think you should start worrying about the sinking ship that is les habitants, 4-1 leafs, 4-1 sabres, looks as though the wheels are falling off your fantasy float!!

  21. nocuphere says:

    I think Kubina heard you!!

  22. kidhenry1 says:

When I think John Tortorella, the first name that pops into my head is Peter Laviolette. A guy I got quite familiar with while he was on the Island, he has that same kind of demand for excellence that Tortorella has.

Of course, eventually the team leaders turned on him and he got a one way ticket to carolina. Watch your back, Johnny.

  23. Lint07 says:

hey, at least we don’t think we have a shot at the Stanley Cup!

I know some Toronto fans that are going to be very disappointed again this year.

  24. Bigdally27 says:

Does anyone remember a few years ago when Svitov spit in Steven Weiss’ face at the World Jrs?He was suspended two games or something. He was acting like a child the whole tournament because the Army in Russia made him do his two years of service before he could go to the NHL. He’s a whinnier and I’m glad the Isles didn’t bite on this one. One right answer for Milbury, doesn’t that make up for not drafting Heatley and trading Luongo? Well it’s a start.

  25. Bigdally27 says:

Does anyone out there remember when Svitov spit in Stephen Weiss’ face? It happened during the Word Jr. championships a few years back. He was suspended for 2 games I think. However, he acted like a complete baby the entire tournament because he had to do another year in the Russian Army before they would let him go to the NHL. I’m glad the Islanders didn’t go for this guy.

This is a great trade for the Bolts. I mean Svitov might be good someday but with richards and vinny lecaviler in front of him he wouldnt be cracking the top two lines anytime soon.

My thing with Sydor though is, he was great in dallas being part of a good group. He and Hatcher and Zubov made up a excellent top three, and Sydor had players shadows he could hide in.

when he went to columbus I was wondering how he would do being a top guy without that kind of support. Columbus, well they are just a bad team right now. They will be a great team in the future, but right now, pretty bad. Sydor looked out of place, could be the pressure of being “the guy” on a bad team and that he is better off being just part of a better group.

I guess we’ll find out now that he’s on TB. They are a better team, and he wont have so much pressure because of that fact.

  28. kovalev says:

Hey, listen you Toronto Maple Loser fan, I live in Toronto and evry year in the sun they give some Go leafs go posters to hang up at your house, that is hurting, at the end of the playoffs all you loser leafs fans look at each other and say “ay will get them next year” and start watching the blue jays play. Every year Habs fans don’t think were going to win the cup. We seen them win in 93 and in 86, twice in our lifetime. You will never see the Leafs win in your lifetime

    67,67,67,67,67,67,67,67,67,67,67,67,67,67,67,67

    Carolina 2- Leafs 0
