B's still shopping Marc Savard
The Marc Savard trade rumors may have quieted down in the past month, but that doesn't mean the Boston Bruins aren't still exploring a possible deal.
According to a source close to the situation, the Bruins are still "actively shopping" Savard, but trade talks have been "hampered" by interested teams facing cap issues. Also complicating a potential deal, according to the source, is the NHL's investigation into Savard's seven-year contract that has an annual salary cap hit of $4 million for the next seven seasons. The Bruins, of course, have cap issues of their own. They'll need to make a move to get under the cap before the season begins.
Seguin officially in the fold
Both Tyler Seguin and the Bruins acknowledge that the 18-year-old isn’t guaranteed a spot on the 2010-11 roster. But if Seguin makes the team out of training camp (he must return to his junior team in Plymouth if he doesn’t), his contract will have been in place well before October.
Bruins plans currently on hold
The Bruins ’ big questions remains unanswered: Will the team be able to find takers for Marc Savard and/or Tim Thomas [stats]? If not, what machinations must general manager Peter Chiarelli conjure up to bring the team in compliance with the salary cap?
Setting the record straight on Savard
There's a pretty good chance Marc Savard won't be with the Bruins at training camp in September.
There are still trade scenarios out there even though Savard survived the frenzied first day of NHL free agency.
Draft just B’s-ginning
There was plenty of trade smoke emanating from the floor of Staples Center during the NHL draft over the weekend, but - with the exception of the Vancouver-Florida swap that sent defenseman Keith Ballard from the Panthers to the Canucks - there was very little fire.
After the league’s 30 general managers dispersed across the continent from Los Angeles to their respective cities, they’ll get back at it today in anticipation of a thin free agent market that opens on Thursday. Bruins [team stats] GM Peter Chiarelli is expected to be feverishly rubbing his twigs together, looking to reignite deals he was working on Friday and Saturday in an effort to move center Marc Savard and goalie Tim Thomas.
Trade of Marc Savard may be Bruin
The names Tyler Seguin and Marc Savard may be inexorably linked now, and maybe not as fellow centermen on the Bruins.
As soon as Edmonton Oilers general manager Steve Tambellini announced his team’s selection of winger Taylor Hall last night at the Staples Center, it ended any suspense about which player the Bruins would get with the No. 2 overall pick.
Should The Bruins Trade Savard?
According to many,
marc Savard is being shopped by the Bruins. Rumors have included
Savard, Wheeler, and the #15 for the #4,
Marc Savard for the #3, and
Marc Savard for
Tomas Kaberle . I, for one, don't buy into it. I think the Bruins signed
Savard to a 7 year contract extension for a reason. Maybe in a few years when
Tyler Seguin may be able to fulfill the #1 center role, then it could be considered, but I think this is reporters trying to create something out of nothing. But, let's look at the upside and downside of trading Savard.
Bruins fine-tuning draft plans
With four days remaining until Friday's draft in Los Angeles, the Bruins are preparing to draft Tyler
Seguin or
Taylor Hall with the No. 2 selection. GM Peter Chiarelli has spoken with Edmonton counterpart Steve Tambellini regarding a deal -- the Oilers would retain the top pick, but acquire an asset from the Bruins, who could then choose between Seguin or Hall -- but made it sound like no trade was close.
Regarding that Marc Savard-to-the-Blue Jackets rumor
In this weird week before hockey news hits fast and furious again (NHL Draft, Free-Agent Frenzy, Hall of Fame, 2010-11 schedule release), any hockey trade rumor that offers something above teams swapping fourth-round picks is going to get major play.
Which is how you end up with "
Brodeur for
Semin !" in newspapers and on television.
Last night, NBC's Pro Hockey Talk blog made an impact by publishing a rumor/proposal for the Boston Bruins and the Columbus Blue Jackets:
