Brian Leetch Only Wants to Return to New York, And Rozsival might be an Oiler

Ok I know your all sick of the rumors. So here is my last rumor about leetch until he is signed by the New York Rangers. Reports have been floating over the end of last week and these are the biggest Rumors from good sources since the Internet talks formed a life of it’s own.

NY Daily News and insidethecode.com are the top sources for new rumors that Brian Leetch is either COMING HOME or not playing any more.Let’s start with some Rumor Quotes.

From the NY Daily News…(http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/hockey/story/450113p-378844c.html)

JOHN DELLAPINA reports at the end of his article

“But as of last night, Leetch still had yet to instruct agent Jay Grossman to lock himself in a room with Sather until a deal is struck. That is because, though he is skating daily and apparently has all but ruled out playing anywhere other than with the Rangers, Leetch has yet to completely make up his mind that he will play at all this season.”

The reporter reported and then asked Tom Renny “the Rangers still appear to lack a similar talent on the power-play point. Asked if he believed the Rangers currently possessed a point man worthy of playing with those two howitzers, Renney joked: “Do you have anybody in mind?”

So Renny seems to know the rumors as well and is making jokes about it? If he knows the rumors then so does the rest of management.

Now reported from http://insidethecode.blogspot.com/2006_09_01_insidethecode_archive.html

Source: Rangers close to signing Brian Leetch

“As ITC has been reporting for a few weeks now, sources close to ITC report that free agent defense men Brian Leetch is close to reaching an agreement with the New York Rangers. Sources close to ITC report the offer is a one year deal in the range of 2 million dollars.

Sources close to ITC also report if the Rangers do sign Leetch, the Oilers would trade for Rangers defensemen Michael Rozsival. There’s also been talk that the Predators, Habs and Canucks could also be a player for him.

More detail about this story can be found on the Insider Forum on SportsNations.com. Home of the ITC NHL Insiders.”

So here’s the Deal. the NY Rangers have kids in Staal and Pock along with others looking for roster spots next year. with Malik, Kasperitus, Tuytin, Ward, and Rachunik, and Rozival all on contracts someone would have to be dealt anyway to open a spot for the Rangers kids next year. Who out of them would you let go or trade to let Staal move into the D-linup next year? Rozival is at the highest value he has ever been and seems like the best choice. Leetch would take his spot this year and then move out of the way for Staal to move into that role. This move by the rangers could be a smart move and to nab someone solid from the oilers and bring back Leetch, a great Ranger, to fill a one year role. Sather is making the right move in doing this.

Next time you see a Leetch post from me on HTR it’ll be after he signs in New York…. Till then…

As a person who watches every ranger game I am so opposed to rosival he cannot play defense, if he didnt go out every shift with jagr he would have had half the plus minus he did.

The NY Daily can be a pretty sketchy source of rumors. If any of this is right, Roszival has to be dealt first. I’m still very leery about all of this. On one hand, having Leetch around for another year, great, he can retire as a Ranger. But it also breaks up the best defense pairing the Rangers had last year. If Rachunek can slide into Roszival’s role (and he probably can), than this might not hurt all that much. I’ll believe all this will happen, when and IF it actually does.

  3. Hockeyislife1 says:

I am for this move also. Roszival is a good player, but I personally would LOVE for Leetch to step back in. His play would most likely be rejuvenated playing where he belongs. A one year deal is key and let him retire a Ranger and Hang that Number 2 from the rafters. Pock and Staal can move up next year and/or fill in this year. Another year and/or months will only make these guys better and ready for NHL play. I say trade Roszival, pick up a good winger who can score. All done. Then see how this team holds up. That’s my opinion, like it or not. 🙂

This is going to be a totally different year from last. So many players moved yet again. I can’t wait for it to start.

    Gooooooooo Rangers!!!!!!!

  4. TheStryker says:

The Predators are already stacked on D-men. I also don’t see the Oilers going after him, they also have alot of depth there. Vancover could use him, but who would they have to give up ? The only team out of the one’s mentioned that has real need for a D-man is Montreal.

    Perezoghin, 4th rnd pick

    To Rangers

    Rosival

  5. Sands says:

I Agree 100%!! This is the best time to move him… So many people think we are wrong but the guy isn’t that good.

Isay third rounder and youve got a deal 🙂

ITC Source: Leetch To Sign With Rangers.

The New York Rangers and Brian Leetch have reached an agreement on a one year deal.

Don’t get crazy like me… but I just saw a post that was put up at around 8pm from this site saying they have a deal worked out. Let’s wait for TSN.ca to report it first. lata playas

  9. nyrhockey094 says:

Rosival was solid on defense last season… I dont know what Rangers you have been watching, but sure as hell not the ones who played last season. He is that good, hes solid, hes 27, still young. Why trade him just to bring back Leetch for one more year? So after Leetch retires and Rosival plays for 10 more years, what did we get? The only way I say trade Rosival is if we can get a decent scoring prospect. We are stacked on defensive prospects right now, not so much on scoring though. But I still would hate to see him go…. If we are gonna trade any one, make it Marek Malik, all he does is lumber around his own end and is beyond slow. He is like a 1/20th of Zdeno Chara skill wise with the same size and slowness.

  10. wingerxxx says:

Agreed. If this is true, it needs to be put up by a verified source like sportsnet.ca or tsn first and foremost. Until then, it’s a rumor.

  11. wingerxxx says:

I agree with you. Roszival was not the problem last year with New York, and he definitely was not on the ice all the time when Jagr was. He is decent defenseman, nothing spectacular. He definitely did his job last year, generally playing against top lines with Malik, and getting top PK duty. Whenever I watched him during games, he generally played contained hockey, which is about all you can ask for, with him.

  12. gg_idiot says:

Whats the big deal with Leetch? He’s a little overrated/old. He’s never reallly been all that good, he was lucky to play with Zubov. His name will forever tarnish the credibility of the Norris Trophy. They might aswell just give it to Pronger or Redden next year(two other very highly overrated defencemen)

  13. habswinthecup-again says:

    I say no thank you.

  14. Sands says:

if you 2 could just admit that at the very very least he was on the ice when jagr was then at the very least half of those +’s where because of Jagr.

He was not the problem last year. BUT! next year who do you demote…. or trade to bring up Staal? Kasper? no.. Tuytin? no… Malik?? NOO Rachunik?? nahh Ward who is just as solid as Rozival and won a cup? nah… So who goes for Staal to step in? rozival who if you look at his past stats has never had a better season? yes.

In return the Rangers will get a very nice grinder.. or scoreing prospect. Which the rangers do need believe it or not. because jagr and shananhan are getting old.

Leetch fills the one year spot and Staal takes it next season. You ahve to admit.. it’s not a bad move at all to do this.

  15. Sands says:

whats your HTR name??? hummmm seems about correct.

  16. gg_idiot says:

Yours too, you have sand in your *****

  17. nyrhockey094 says:

You just made my point for me sands… “rozival who if you look at his past stats has never had a better season?” So when he has a better season, why trade him away, hes on his way to becoming a very good Dman. Trade Malik, not 27 year old Rosival. I dont mind having Leetch back on the team as long as we trade Malik. Ill admit that his +- is boosted a bit b/c of Jagr, but that does not constitue weak play on Rosivals part.

I wouldnt get rid of Kasper, or Rachunek or Ward, it has to be Malik, its the only logical move. If Rosival gets traded I just lost any bit of respect I had left for Glen Sather.

  18. Sands says:

Rozival is at the highest he will ever be on the trade market. If you remember stats from JD last year… every game Malik didnt play in.. the Rangers lost. Malik is better then Rozival so believe it or not, That stat is a fact too so you need to look into that for yourself. Rosival will get you somthing real nice in return that the Rangers can use. Jagr was everything to Rosivals +s this year. Leetch in one year and Staal steps in next year or mid season if someone goes down. dont forget pock is ready to move up too.

  19. Sands says:

    whamp whamp

  20. dewdrop11 says:

    Never been all that good?

He’s carried some of the teams he’s been on on his shoulders.

Without Leetch, the Rangers don’t win a cup in 94. PERIOD

The guy could win a game by himself in his prime. Granted he is past it now, but still a very very good defenseman, and one whom would do wonders for the locker room.

As for Pronger and Redden, they are also very solid…with different strengths, and weaknesses. I wonder…whom in your eyes is credible…because your arguments aren’t carrying a lot of weight…look at the stats…but more so…look at the intangibles.

  21. gg_idiot says:

    you one this argument

  22. gg_idiot says:

    KASPERITIS!!!!

  23. nyrhockey094 says:

It makes you wonder how many games the Rangers would have lost if Rosival had missed any games 😉

  24. wingerxxx says:

Your comments about Leetch are way off base. He’s not the player he once was, but he’s still a very solid top 4 defenseman. I don’t know how he fits on the Rangers, but he’s still a viable defender. He could kill penalties by himself in his prime, and is a lock for the Hall of Fame.

You are joking about Pronger being overrated right? By that rationale, so are Lidstrom and Niedermayer.

  25. Sands says:

that whole “one” joke.. I have no idea what that means… If I mistyped somthing my bad… I’m at work otherwise… go ***** yourself

  26. gg_idiot says:

No, Lidstrom is alright, and yeah I think Rob is freaking awesome, he should have been on Team Canada!

  27. gg_idiot says:

    oh, are you a stenographer?
