Bruins lose Van Impe to Rangers via waivers!!!!

The New York Rangers have claimed defenseman Darren Van Impe off the waiver wire, it was announced Tuesday by Rangers general manager Glen Sather. Van Impe, 28, appeared in 31 games for Boston last season, registering three goals and 10 assists for 13 points, along with 41 penalty minutes. He missed 49 games due to injury, including the final 41 because of left shoulder surgery.

Now we could argue whether Van Impe was gonna have a better, less injured season than last year, but I don’t think anyone will argue that he is one of the better, underrated scoring defensemen in the League. He can quarterback a powerplay as good as anybody, and has a cannon for a shot.

One of the reasons I am active on this site is because I want to understand this stuff better. Can someone PLEASE explain to me what he was doing on waivers in the first place. He was up for arbitration (I think) today or tomorrow. Don’t you have to be on waivers for like 3 days? Did O’Connell put him on waivers 3 days before his arbitration hearings because he already knew Van Impe wanted too much?

I think the Rangers have gotten some lame ducks from Boston in the last few years, Taylor, DiMaio, and I think there was another but I can’t remember who it was and he is gone now anyway.

Maybe this one could work out for them. I will be the first Bruins fan to say this was a bad move. Let me know what you guys think.
