Bruins making a bid for Gonchar and Leetch

The Bruins are making serious offers to shore up their blue line by inquiring for the for both Gonchar and Leetch.

According to the Boston Globe, Boston has made calls asking about both blueliners. While obviously a deal for both would NEVER I would be interested to see who is both rumored to be in this deal, and how serious an offer this is. This would be a great acquisition for Boston eithier way, but still i think a longshot compared to what some teams are supposively offering. I imagine the Bruins would look to move one defenseman in this deal, possibly Gill, Morrisson, or Jillson.

Ok then, if the draft position of the players mean so much how bout Antropov, Berg (a 3rd overall pick) and a first rounder. Too bad we don’t still have Eriksson and Jackman, they were first round picks. How about Wickenheiser and Fogarty? Where a guy was drafted means squat. Just ask Stumpy!!!

  2. mikster says:

Umm, he was acquired last year and the Devs won the cup last year.

Damn you, why did you make me say that!!!!

  3. tj_hooker says:

Ha! I’ve noticed when members disagree, the other person is typically referred to as an asshole, a dickhead, or at the very least a dumbass. So much love.

  4. Wills says:

Not a good arguement. Maybe you don’t want to them to get Gonchar because you want your team too, but Samsonov makes 3.65 million which I think would mean that the Bruins would be cutting salary. If its Jillson they would only being adding around 2.5 million dollars.

  5. nocuphere says:

How can you say Boston has the better deal on the table. Samsonov is the most fragile piece of china in the league. I’ll take Stajan’s entry level salary over Samsonov’s bloated 4.2 mill anyday.

  6. MaSTiK says:

dont be so ignorant man, u may not feel that what the leafs have on the table is as good as what the bruins do, but u cant call Stajan crap. He is one of the brightest rookies out there, and will be an excellent player. And to say that a 1st rounder is crap too? To say something like that is just retarded, thats like me saying Raycroft is crap,

When does Boston ever make a trade? They don’t have the money, they have openly admitted that in the past.

  8. GretzNYR99 says:

I agree, he could play better than Poti defensively also. I’d love to have Jillson.

Jillson and O’Donell and a pick for Leetch and Poti, that’s fair.

  9. GretzNYR99 says:

    Preach it, 89.

When was he Canadian? You can’t just all of a sudden be a different nationality. Do you mean a Canadien, aka a Hab, playing for Montreal?

  11. GretzNYR99 says:

I’d love to have Jillson. He’s going to be an incredible defenseman. Huml is another great one in the future. I’d love to have them both. I’d take that trade right away.

  12. LondonK says:

That wasn’t even the rumour. It was Samsonov + a first. Jillson was not part of the rumour.

  13. mojo19 says:

yeah man. Stajan is good. Good hands, good around the net.

  14. mojo19 says:

    i agree with mikster.

  15. mikster says:

    Bad mistake i made.

But, i wouldn’t be talking about much bias when you just showed a perfect example of it yourself.

  16. mikster says:

Well, that may be your view on Leetchy, but you don’t know what teams are offering, and plus….it’s not certain that Leetch is being shopped. So, it’s a wait and see, very exciting at that too.

Boston needs depth on forward lines.

Devils, while they are going on a burts of offense excitement, which will last shortly as usual, need offense as well. What interested in Gonchar!? Rafalski and Scotty Neidermeyer are to offensive skaters already. Why force Gonchar into doing HALF of what he is capable of because they play such a killer game system? Makes no sense to me. They should hunt for a forward.

Jillson has not proven anything yet. I have yet to see what he’s got to show as a starting NHL defenseman.

    Wings, will overpay again!

  17. mikster says:

Jillson hasn’t proved to be an NHL starting defenseman though. I guess i’d take him, but i have a question mark on the top of his head.

  18. IrishRinkrat says:

Mikster’s right… even though I think Leetch would be a better fit because he brings more than offense to the table, even though he is past his prime. Gonchar makes too many mistakes in his own zone, but he’s the closest thing the NHL has to Paul Coffey of the 1980s, so whoever goes after him will pay up.

  19. TC_4 says:

My team sure as hell ain’t getting Gonchar(Edmonton). I’m saying that Boston is a team that wants to keep payroll low because they’re pinning they’re hopes on a good lockout.

  20. BosBrn77 says:

How about Oates, Tocchet and Ranford for Carey Carter and Allison? Maybe Allison and Eloranta for Murray and Stumpel. McLaren and a pick for Hackett and Jillson? Carter for Guerin? Wait….. I don’t think they ever make a trade either. One thing about Boston… when they make legitimate trades, they better the team.

As for not having the money? Are you nuts? Jacobs could spend just as much as the Rangers if he wanted too. But that IS the problem. He doesn’t want to. He has said in recent interviews that he is looking to see O’Connell make an impact.

Please…. do some research before you post. I have NEVER heard Boston “openly admit” they do not have any money.

  21. bamboo says:

I am sure you would love to have them both. All the man meat you can eat huh Gretz?

  22. BosBrn77 says:

mik, plenty of players have question marks on top of their heads. Not all players come right out and play like Bergeron, Staal and the likes. I really think Jillson has a great upside. He has the size and strength to overpower most players in the league… with the right training.

If Boston were to get Leetch, I would hope it would be without including Jillson so that Leetch could tutor him.

  23. BosBrn77 says:

You’re right, this is exciting. And please do not think I am cutting down Leetch. I’d love to have him on Boston… any team could use his play and experience. But he is not the same player as a few years ago…. like many others. I hope the Rangers make some big deals to get some youth in to rebuild. They have players that would help out bubble teams and they could get nice returns for some.

I agree Boston needs help at forward. I think one winger and one d-man would make them a much better team. Unfortunately, Boston has a few UFAs next year as well. Big ones at that… Murray and Rolston to name two. Considering the Bruins track record with UFAs, I hope they move a few players to get something before they end up with nothing as usual.

I also agree NJ would be a “bad” fit for Gonchar. Especially if Stevens returns. They need a forward more then another d-man.

Jillson may surprise you, mik. With the right mentor, I think he could reach all-star status.

    Wings always do!!

  24. montrealbruinsfan says:

Yes, of course I meant a Hab. I know he’s American that was never an issue.

  25. Killa_Bs says:

As a fan of the Bruins I must say that I agree with you. I would get really mad if they gave up on someone like Samsonov for Gonchar. Don’t get me wrong I wouldn’t mind seeing a guy like Gonchar with a “B” on his chest – but not if it means that Samsonov will be seen with an eagle on his.

I think the Bruins made a good acquisition when they got Jiri Slegr from the Canucks. In him they got a steady, experienced defenseman who can pass and shoot on the powerplay. I am not sure that Gonchar would make a huge difference in Boston. If Samsonov is traded I want a player that makes a BIG difference.

So if Toronto want him – be my guest. I’d rather go for Ron Francis and Brian Leetch at trading deadline.
