Brule At #2?

Inside information from the Vancouver Giants’ front office say that, after Sidney Crosby is taken in the draft, it might not be any of the next three top players taken at #2. Not Jack Johnson, not Benoit Pouliot, not Bobby Ryan. No, Gilbert Brule may be taken at #2 by the Anaheim Mighty Ducks.

Scott Bonner, the GM of the Giants, has noticed that Brian Burke has been in his building a lot this season, and he has been saying since the lottery that his star might soon be a Duck.

Bonner thinks that Brule will compliment forwards like Joffrey Lupul and Petr Sykora well, if he is taken in the second position.

Brule stole the show at this year’s CHL Top Prospects game, netting a hat trick. He combined 39 goals and 48 assists in 70 games for 87 points for Vancouver. He is a small man at only 5’10 and 175 lbs, but competes like a big man, enjoying to hit as much as to score.

Will this man be chosen 2nd? Or will it be Johnson, Pouliot, Ryan, or someone else? We shall see.

I was hoping to see him get taken 6th like he’s slated for, and then see him play with Rick Nash

Burke would be a fool not to scout Brule. Even if he has no intention of drafting him he would still be scouted. I think you’re reading into this way too much. Anahiem needs a good solid defenceman or another player who will be dominant in the NHL. Brule’s still small and it’s not sure if his body will be able to handle the rigors of the big league. I think Johnson will be second. Anahiem needs a player like him.

Anaheim is in depserate need of some defence. They already have a huge contingent of prospect forwards (and just plain good forwards) up front. I belive Brian Burke lives in Vancouver, right? Sure would explain why he spent a lot of time in the damn building. Besides, Burke isn’t a scout, he’s the GM. While he is hands on and would want to see the players for himself, I don’t see him personally doing any hard core scouting, he’s got too many other important things to do than watch junior games… unless he was there to cheer on the hometeam.

I see Anahiem grabbing Jack Johnston. I seriously hope they do too because Dammit, I want Brule in Vancouver!

    that would kick ass

  5. TheCoach says:

I seriously doubt it. Burke lived in Vancouver this past year, of course he was at a lot of Giants games.

Pierre McGuire also said that he talked to 10 GMs, and none had Brule in their top 4. I assume Burke is one of those GMs as he is close with the people at TSN.

The Ducks need defense. They already have a stable of good young forwards.

Brule to play with Joffrey Lupul and Petr Sykora ? rick nash ? the guy wont even be in the NHL for another 2-3 years people, the guy is way too small for teh NHL… yet again another stupid rambling of know it all HTR fans

  7. skandelousHABSfan says:

I sure hope he gets taken early, cause that measn there is a bigger chance that the Habs can get Bobby Ryan.

  8. adambuffalo says:

they said st louis was too small too!

  9. Tweek says:

Burke will draft the ogar known as Jack Johnson I would imagine, I mean the ducks need a d man like him because he’s big and can eventaully dominate with the powerplay leaving ozolinish expendible down the road.

  10. NemiNA says:

the habs need a tough power forward badly. If they can’t get Ryan, they should try to sign Murray

  11. skandelousHABSfan says:

I agree. i think they gotta sign a combo like kovalev, or a skilled forward of that sort, for the top line with koivu; and a tough big power forward like murry for the second line with ribiero. if they can get that and a big time d-man, then they will be serious contenders.

  12. GretzNYR99 says:

Pouliot would be a better fit in Montreal, being that he plays a more well-rounded game than Ryan.

  13. By-Tor says:

All this talk that Brule is too small is somewhat misguided. He and Crosby are the same size and no one is calling Crosby too small! Brule will likely end up in Mtl – good fit for the habs who need some toughness.

  14. Montrealsdogg says:

hell yes, i would be happy about this happening!

  15. Montrealsdogg says:

Pouliot is a much more rounded player then Brule, and would be a better fit overall.

    33 * Benoit Pouliot Sudbury Wolves 67 29 38 67 102

    3 Gilbert Brule Vancouver Giants 70 39 48 87 169

Pouliot is a rookie, Brule was not… you make your own assumption, i know Ben will be the real deal.

  16. Raccer says:

Montreal need a big men, hope they’ll pick Pouliot or Ryan but I think Pouliot will go after the 4th pick.

  17. zednik says:

As great as Brule may be, and as much as I hope he is still around at 5, I don’t think there is a much of a chance that anyone other then Pittsburgh would pass up on a stud like Jack Johnson.

In most other draft years he would be a surefire first overall, and I am not saying he is head and sholders above the Ryans and the Pouliots but he is a rare big strong defenceman with some offensive upside,

I think Burke would be crazy to pass that up, although I am sure teams below the Ducks would be thrilled
