Buffalo, Washington and Anaheim talk

Many players could be shuffling out of Buffalo, including defensemen Christian Ehrhoff and Tyler Myers and forwards Chris Stewart and Drew Stafford.

Capitals GM George McPhee is in the last year of his contract, so this season’s outcome could decide his future in Washington. Jaroslav Halak did his part by winning his first game since arriving from Buffalo in a trade.

McPhee got a head start on next season by finally coaxing top prospect Evgeny Kuznetsov from the KHL. He won’t help the team’s porous defense, but ought to add firepower while following Alex Ovechkin’s lead.

The Blue Jackets are positioned to spend money this summer after turning the page on Marian Gaborik. Pending unrestricted free agent Matt Moulson could be just the goal-scorer Columbus needs.

The Ducks are another team to watch. They dumped Dustin Penner before the trade deadline and Teemu Selanne will retire. With young forwards to spend, Anaheim could get into the trade mart in a big way.
