Brad Isbister was benched and will be a healthy scratch. Isbister traded?
Wednesday, March 05, 2003
The Fourth Period –

How do you create a frenzied buzz around the arena, in the press box, and on the message boards the week before the trade deadline? You make the player most rumored to be on his way out of town a healthy scratch.

That’s exactly what the Islanders did last night when they sat winger Brad Isbister in last night’s 3-1 loss against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Isbister did not even take the pre-game skate leading many people to the conclusion that a trade announcement was imminent.

And that may be exactly the case. The rumors floating around the press box at Nassau Coliseum had Isbister going to Florida, San Jose, Calgary and St. Louis, although coach Peter Laviolette said after the game that it was simply a ‘coach’s decision’ not to dress Isbister.

One particular rumor had Isbister and goaltender Chris Osgood (who is expected to rejoin the Islanders tomorrow from an injury), going to St. Louis in exchange for forward Cory Stillman and a defenseman. The thinking was that the Blues were encouraged with Chris Pronger’s on-ice workout on Monday, making a defenseman available to be dealt.

Another rumor had Isbister on his way to Florida, with the names of defensemen Igor Ulanov and Brad Ference mentioned as possibilities going the other way. Panthers coach Mike Keenan reportedly expressed interest in Isbister a few days ago.

A deal could be announced as early as today, or it really could have just been a ‘coach’s decision’.

Isbister is a wimp. I am tried of people fearing another Bertuzzi, this guy is not even close to be a Bertuzzi. He is not tough, he is a wimp. He is a big wimp. Only place where he can do something with his career is Boston…maybe Philly, but Philly doesn’t have any wimps that back away from a Fleury.

Isbister should have been traded a while ago, especially after that 5-0 masacre the Isle’s had to deal with against the Rangers. Samuelsson drilling and injuring Cairns, Holik taking runs at Osgood, and the rest of his teammates getting checked and pushed around. Where was Brad? He is a big boy, he has strength, but no toughness? Not even enough to stand up for your teammate? You don;’t score…you don’t play tough (at least Bertuzzi was tough) and you don’t stand up for your teammates? (—-) off! Isbister is nothing more than a 3rd line player. He still has a chance to turn it around with another team, but what will it take to get him to play tough?

Again with Fleury reference. Is he your drinking buddy?

  3. mikster says:

    Bitter, aren’t ya? hehe.

Not at all…I just question this all-out hatred for Isbister. I’m curious as to why…did he kill your dog, bang your sister, or something?

I really don’t think he will be traded.

Side note: Mike Francessa (of all frigging people!) on the FAN said he heard that the Islanders were close to landing Satan.

I take it as seriously as something Brooks writes. To prove my point, he didn’t even remember the Satan’s name, somebody else said it.

Nothing like TFP to cover EVERY POSSIBLE SCENARIO! What the hell does any of this mean?

  6. mikster says:

I hate the guy, i’d hate him if he was on my team. Come on, he doesn’t stand up for his teammates? That would piss me off. It would piss me off if Lindros didn’t stand up for his teammates, but he does that. If he didn’t, i would not have wanted him as a Ranger by now.

  7. mikster says:

isby isby whiner will be kicked out, pissed is milbury and kicked the loser out!

    sorry.

Dude, it’s a rumor….just like TSN.ca’s sportsnet.ca’s post’s dailynews’, newsday’s rumors. Deal with it and treat it like a rumor.

  8. wayne2 says:

If he`s such a wimp,we`ll take him in Ottawa for Schastlevy.

Isn’t TFP the source that said earlier this year, McClaren to the Islanders imminent. I believe they mentioned Isbister as one of the guys going back to Boston. So that pretty much sums up the TFP references.

Stan Fischler on the Isles post-game radio show last night said he thinks the Isles will move Isbister for anyone who can get Yashin going. I agree that Isbister for all the talk of him being a power forward hasn’t showed much. He doesn’t stick up for teammates and hasn’t been the scorer they thought he would turn into. Now that Dave Scatchard has emerged as the nasty tough forward they thought Isbister would be, I think Isbister will be traded either before the deadline or over the summer.

I didn’t hear the Francesa comment saying the Isles are close to getting Satan, but Francesa is an idiot who knows very little about hockey. And he sidekick Mad Dog Russo is even worse. They make Larry Brooks look like Nostredamus.

TFP reported that sources (like sportsnet.ca) state that a trade betweedn the Isle’s and B’s was imminent.

Isbister should be traded, he is not helping that team at all. Goodness, get Yashin off the 4th line.

  11. pantherboy says:

He may be a wimp, but Keenan is amazing when he actually makes a player his “project”. And thats what I think is going to happen if the Panthers do aquire him, although I don’t want to see Ferance leaving.

  12. NYIchooch75 says:

Wow! You damn hate monger. Actually, I agree with you…I’ve heard he is unhappy on the Island, about what I have no freaking clue. The guy was given every chance and blew it. And yes, I hope he is traded, but for something of value. I don’t want a draft pick, I’d rather keep him. His salary isn’t tha big.

  13. NYIchooch75 says:

I know! Relax, it’s just funny how quick you are to defend TFP. Think of it as revenge for that Fleury comment that always gets me going…

But seriously, read it again and try to tell me they didn’t cover every possible scenario.

How about a wimp for wimp swap – Isbister for Hab’s Kilger or McKay? McKay has playoff grit and can help on the powerplay. Montreal is the burial ground for sucky wimpy overpaid forwards. A perfect fit for Isbister.

  17. mikster says:

TFP is trying to grow, that’s the way to go.

    >>>???

mikster…. are you taking a hack at my team again? I hope this was meant in a good way! But by the way you talk about him, I’m scared that it wasn’t!!
