Burke to Blues?|| My take on Iginla to NYR|| Leafs should go for it!||March MADn

Like I mentioned before, Burke should be heading to the St. Louis Blues.

Media exaggerates Iginla to Rangers rumor.

MARCH MADNESS COMING SOON!!! And no, not college basketball.

Yashin on the FOURTH line? Yikes!

Funny news of the day!!!www.thefourthperiod.com

“(Feb. 17th) Although coach Joel Quenneville is trying to be patient with Brent Johnson, in hopes that he will start to perform like a number one goalie again, it appears that the team does not have the same confidence in Johnson. “We’re showing patience with Johnny to recapture his performance,” Quenneville said. “In the playoffs, your timeline is a little tighter. The urgency is greater. We’re in a position right now with Johnson where we need him to get that one solid game in him and feel a little confidence.” Quenneville said. But a recent reported tongue-lashing behind closed doors by Al MacInnins, and a practice where Johnson and Keith Tkachuk almost came to blows shows that Johnson’s teammates have clearly had enough of not only his inconsistent play, but also his attitude. Blues GM Larry Pleau and Phoenix Coyotes GM Mike Barnett were seen speaking at Saturday’s game between St. Louis and Phoenix at the Savvis Center, although neither GM would elaborate. “As a policy, we don’t feel it’s appropriate to talk about what we might or might not do with the players on our roster,” Barnett said. “I talk with general managers all the time when they come into town,” added Pleau. It’s well known that Phoenix wants to trim payroll, and for the right deal Barnett would move veteran netminder Sean Burke. From the Blues standpoint a small stumbling block might be Burke’s contract. Burke’s remaining salary for this year is about $1 million and is $4.5 million next year, there is another year for 2004-05, at Burke’s option for over $4 million. Although Pleau wants to remain fiscally responsible with the team budget, there is the almost $4.8 million in insurance money that the team has received because franchise defenseman Chris Pronger has not played all season. Another complication is that Burke has been injured most of this season, he’s only played nine games all year and hasn’t seen game action since January 3rd. He is expected back this week and St. Louis management will watch him closely to see if he is the same goaltender that was a Vezina finalist last year. If they judge that he is, it says here that Burke moves to St. Louis before the deadline.”

It made sense when I mentioned it. The Blues need a pro goalie for the playoffs run. Sean Burke could turn this team around for sure. However, the Coyotes cannot afford to pull off another Tkachuk deal type of trade. Who could the Coyotes acquire from the Blues though? Barret Jackman would be a steal, but it is highly doubted that the Blues would part with him.

What kind of trade are you expecting?

This whole thing of Iginla to the Rangers is getting a little out of hand. I am sure that the Rangers contacted the Flames and asked about Iginla (who wouldn’t) but the rumors involving Blackburn for Turek as part of the package are outrageous!!! Blackburn will NOT be traded. He has a future in New York, he is the franchise’s “next Richter”.

Excluding Blackburn, I am not understanding the wrong in acquiring Iginla for the Rangers. So what? He is 25 years old, it’s not like the Rangers are trading youth for over 30 veterans. Is that what is bothering other fans? Or, is it the payroll?

If it’s the payroll, then I wouldn’t worry about it. First of all, acquring Kovalev was not only to salvage this season only. Same with Iginla, he wouldn’t be acquired to salvage this season. These players are acquired for long-term reasons. Second, the Rangers will probably let Leetch walk away in the off-season. With Leetch, Messier, Lefebvre and Karpa leaving, plus Holik ($6.5M) and Kasparaitis ($3.6M) making less salary the next two seasons…the payroll will be trimmed by about $20M.

The Flames will most likely want to deal Iginla to the Eastern Conference.

The scenario:

Only three teams in the East would most likely land Iginla. Forget the Devils, they won’t risk skyrocketing their payroll up to at least $60M next season. It will either be the Flyers, Maples Leafs, or Rangers. Maybe Boston? Doubt it!

The Flyers are not willing to part with Simon Gagne. Even if I think they should land Iginla by giving up Gagne, they probably won’t. The Flyers don’t have much else to offer, other than Gagne and Williams. No Gagne, no Iginla.

The Maple Leafs could give it a try, but they want a veteran and a significant leader in the playoffs (Owen Nolan). Iginla is too expensive for the Maple Leafs, as they have no other young low salaried starter to offer other than Nik Antropov. I say the Leafs should do their very best to acquire Nolan, even if it means giving up Antropov, Brad Boyes, and a 2nd rounder!!! I say GO FOR IT AND RISK IT!!! This is the best chance for the Eastern Conference to win the Stanley Cup. All of the Western teams have their wekanesses and are very beatable. If the Leafs land Nolan, they will be the team to beat in the playoffs, since they already are a playoff performer with a smart GM and head coach.

So, going back to the Iginla story, the Rangers are the other ones willing to acquire Iginla. Forget Turek, Rangers have deep goaltending depth even without Mike Richter (most likely to retire). Mike Dunham could easily be a starter, then there is Blackburn, Holmqvist, LaBarbera, Meyer, Snee, and another top goalie prospect, and elite in Sweden, Henrik Lundqvist. Turek making that much money as a back-up??? DON’T THINK SO!!! Flames, however, would at the very least want Blackburn. If that is the case, then the Rangers will not acquire Iginla. However, the Flames are also interested in Alberta native Jamie Lundmark.

Sather has given up little in big trades, so I would not be surprised one bit if he pulls another one. However, I doubt it.

As for GM Button and the Flames….SCREW THE EAST!!!! The Western Conference has more talent to work with, deal within the conference.

March Madness is almost three weeks away. What are your expectations? A lot of involvement, or not so much involvement? Blockbuster deals, or minor deals?

My take, I say the Devils will try to land a playoff performer, and possibly it could be Chris Drury. However, what is the price to pay though? Gomez and Gionta? Could happen, but I would not call that a good trade. Lamoriello is a smart GM though, and could steal a player like Drury.

How about the Flyers? It’s like, these guys will never win it unless they actually go for it! I still say Roman Chechmanek will not lead the team to a Cup win, maybe a final. Who can they acquire? I say go for a QB. Come on, they have the scorers, and these are playoffs we’re talking about. So far, Ken Hitchcock has made little impact in the regular season, but that is not the reason why he was hired. He needs to get this team to perform in the playoffs.

The Wings will also be looking to add a key forward and probably a defenseman. Big name? I say it will be a key minor deal with a popular defenseman, no big name.

Can you think of anything else?

Struggling centre Alexei Yashin, the New York Islanders’ highest paid player, was demoted to the fourth line on Saturday and is expected to stay there for Monday’s game against the Mighty Ducks of Amaheim.

Yashin has just one goal in his past 11 games and is on a career-low pace with 13 goals and 43 points through 57 games. Those totals lead the team, but so does Yashin’s -19 rating. By comparison, second-leading scorer Jason Blake has a +18 rating to go with his 38 points.

Islanders’ coach Peter Laviolette made the line changes without comment, saying only that it was an internal matter.

Yashin’s new line-mates are grinder Claude Lapointe and tough guy Steve Webb. Yashin was replaced on the top line by Oleg Kvasha. Brad Isbister took Kvasha’s place on left wing, while Arron Asham remined the top right-winger.

General manager Mike Milbury supported Laviolette’s decision. “He’s not as productive as we’d like him to be and it has nothing to do with double-teams,” Milbury said. “He does get some attention, but I think he’s got more to offer. He can play better and it’s just a little bit of a wake-up call for Alexei.”

“Alex is just struggling with his game a little bit, for whatever reason,” Islanders captain Michael Peca said. “We’ve all been through it, so we’ve just got to try and be as supportive as we can.

“Sometimes you’ve got to hit rock bottom before you start climbing back up.”

“I can’t really talk about it,” Yashin said. “It’s not my decision, it’s the coach’s decision.

“There’s nothing I can do about it. He made his decision on what he has to do to make the team successful.”

With Yashin struggling and the Islanders in need of a legitimate top-line scoring threat, the trade rumors picked up considerably this weekend. The top target, according to the New York Post, is former Islander Ziggy Palffy, whose salary was dumped by previous ownership on Long Island.”

Oh? Yashin on the fourth line is quite interesting. Good move by Peter Laviolette. Yashin The Horrible does need a skilled winger, but it is not easy for the Isle’s to acquire one. Zig Zag Palffy? Maybe, but that might be the Leafs 2nd choice after Nolan, and the Isle’s cannot afford Ziggy’s salary.

Would the Isle’s think about removing Ca$hin Yashin? I would not be surprised, and I think they should. However, with such a high contract, it is hard to believe which team will acquire him. In the end, horrible trade for the Islanders as Chara and Spezza are future franchise players for the Senators.

And finally, the funny news of the day (off topic). The French have turned their backs on the US and its other allies. How does the US react to this? By not buying French goods!!! France’s cheese, water, and wine (not made naturally, not good) sales have gone down. In fact, a restaurant in North Carolina is not selling French Fries, but Freedom Fries. And, for you information, the French did not create/invent fries, the Belgians did!

Blackburn has tons of potential and upside.

What i say has just as much value as what you say. You say Blackburn is a risk, sure i am accepting that. But, i am saying that it is a risk to give up Blackburn.

He justed kicked ass tonight in Ottawa and had an unlucky night where a puck hit Poti’s leg and went in.

If i were the Flames, i would be looking to get Blackburn. He is a goalie to build a team around and they lack a quality goalie.

Medvedev is good, fat…really fat, lazy , and poor work ethic.

They need Blackburn, period. However, he is not going anywhere.

  3. mikster says:

Ahhh, you hear, but you need to see his playoff stats!

It’s almost impossible to get a poitn a game in the playoffs, but he had 9 points in 12 games last year.

Nik will be good, that i know….but would you want to win the Cup now/next season or in a few years ?

  4. mikster says:

    New York Titanics, great name!

They should get Iginla. Not like he is a 30 year old super star, this guy has just or is about to reach his prime.

The loss to the Sens tonight was terrible.

Blackburn totally kicked ass, but unlucky with a goal that went off Poti’s leg. Danny isn’t going anywhere.

  5. burky says:

If the Rangers are serious about Iginla, they have to include Blackburn along with Lundmark and Dvorak.

Since Darryl Sutter came on board Iggy has been scoring at his 50 goal pace from last year, and receiving only Lundmark is not good management.

The Avs and Devils can both offer better than Dvorak and Lundmark, but with Blackburn, you’ve got yerself a deal.

  6. Aetherial says:

I would be happy either way but I fear a cup for the Leafs is still along ways off 🙁

  7. Aetherial says:

A loss to the Sens is not terrible. They are a VERY good hockey club. They have as much chance to take a cup this year as anyone, even anyone from the West.

The loss to Buffalo was tough to take 🙁

in st. louis, John Hadley (550 am KTRS, Fox Sports Midwest, http://www.hadleyonsports.com) is reporting that the deal has been agred to in principle and that it will be three players going to PHO. the only sticking points are Burke’s heath, the health of zac bierk and MONEY (big suprise!!!). the deal could go down as soon as 48 hrs from now, but will take much longer, in all likelyhood (as these things usually do) IF it happens.

he is also reporting that if the burke deal goes down, that freddy brathwaite will be dealt to carolina, which leads me to believe that brent johnson would not be included in the deal. who are the likely candidates to go to the desert? well, they’d have to be cheap. it will be interesting to see, but i think eric boginiecki, bryce salvador, tyson nash, matt walker, or christian backman are all possibilities. i would venture a guess, but i am still very jaded and discombobulated over the kovalev deal, i don’t know what qualifies as a “fair trade” anymore, so i just hope that pleau doesn’t sell the farm like he did in the tkachuk deal (not that i am disappointed with that deal by ANY means).

if the deal appens, it will definitely be a positive move for the blues. no WAY burke could be any worse than brathwaite or johnson. he can only improve the team. but if the blues can’t make this deal, there is only one goalie that MIGHT be available to help them out….the Bulin wall. save for him (IF he can be had ,and he is rumored to be available) No one else available would be an upgrade.

not surprsing the chicken sh*t french turn their backs on us. they WANT another world war so they can surrender again. the only reason the french don’t back the saddam extraction is the fact that if they do it will come out that they have been selling iraq weapons and technology they weren’t supposed to have. what whores……..

  11. jammer21 says:

if the blues make a deal for burke, we both know jackman ain’t goin anywhere. it will be someone like salvador, khavanov, walker, nash (god willing), or someone not making much money. but i don’t have to tell you this, i am quite sure. if we get burke and he stays healthy…..WATCH OUT!!!

  12. TheMinister says:

Again you’re completely missing the point. Somewhere along the line you took this personally.

If you worked as hard (as you claim to) then your comparative standard of living would be higher in the third world. Which would mean that for your 11 hour days you would get no tv, no meat, no movies, no blah blah blah… but better than the next guy. I assume that’s what you are saying about yourself now. As far as deserving it… well, that’s a matter of opinion.

The reason you and I have a better standard of living is because our ‘founding fathers’ stole resource rich land, broke treaties, murdered and in the case of America, imported thousands of slaves to do their work for them. Then both our countries employed paramilitary tactics to improve our trade agreements and import the HARD work of others for an unfair deal.

Now you say that your success and therefore your right to consume at the level you do is all because of your hard work. Get a clue. Admit the truth, then you can be grateful for what you have. Until then you sound like a spoiled brat who is living of of the hard work his parents did.

Forget it I’m done with this… when you live in peace because the rest of the world has an equal ‘opportunity’ as you then get back to me.

Living in peace yet…. no? Me neither.

  13. TheMinister says:

Hey, kettle, this is pot, ‘you’re black.”

Point 1 It took America until the end of 1941 to join the war whilst over half of the allied forces died including my grandfather and uncle.

Point 2 They weren’t the only ones selling a rogue state weapons…

As long as you guys keep buying this patriotic crap and not look at the facts I’m going to keep this up.

Unless of course you stop this stupid war mongering and stick to hockey. That way we can have something in common rather than argue.

First off, if they but Iginla on Holiks line then what was the sence of getting him. Iginlas an offensive player while Holik is a defensive player.Stupid.

Second, enough about Mottau already. Hes not w/ the organization anymore and they got noting for him.

Sure any team can draft a Purinton, but its how that team develops a Purinton. Besides his size, ya think Beulaboom was anything special when he was drafted? I personally think Purinton is having and excellent season.

Dude, when you mention Tjutin, explain that he won a gold medal in the junior championships please. And plenty of players won gold at the world juniors. Garth Murray is hardly a power foward at 6’2″ and only 6 goals.

And you name this nasty role player type, well what ever happened to Blouin and Vandenbusche? And TWO Kloucek type players? WOW! But what ever happened to the first Kloucek type player?

Yes Neil Smith had plaers like Errey, Smyth and Armstrong (whos doing well in L.A. this season) in Hartford, but how are the likes of John Tripp, Dixion Ward, Richard Lintner, Billy Tibbets and everyones favorite, Ken Gernander better?

And lastly, when i pointed out that the Rangers drafted “A” Simon Gagne IN 1987, I was just stating a coincidence. What does Malhortra have anything to do with it?

  26. Slovakiaz says:

Heh, you mean Russian whores ? Hey you know shit about it … 99% of the Eastern Europe “whores” you’re talking about was kidnapped by mafia into western Europe, they take their passports … and beating them or killing, there are 1000s of vanished girls who simply disapear and never been seen ! So shut up, you don’t know nothing …

  27. Slovakiaz says:

Heh, what I’ll tell you ? Hmm, here in Europe everybody knows that 95% of all Americans are dumb. Our 10-year kids know more than your 15-year kids, and thats for real ! Everybody I know who went study to US and came back wre telling us how you are stupid, not all of you but … mathematics, geography, literature and so on …

You killed Indians, you killed Afro-black people and now you’re going to kill some Islamic people, nuke Japanese or kill vietnamese … I know history well, better than you loser :)))))))

  28. Slovakiaz says:

What pathetic existence you’re talking about … i work the same way you work, got the money (if not more than you) … so what are you talking about ? But thank you for leting us all see that you’re an arrogant moron like whole USA, willing to kill anybody in your way or who disagree ! Thanks a lot … you were good representative of your country, you have to be pride on yourself, hehehehehehehehehehe … it’s sad ;o(

nice words, you’re real TheMinister diplomat ;o)

  30. Slovakiaz says:

So tell me then, why they didn’t nuke Vietnamese and saves thousands of theirs soldiers ? Probably they want to sacrifice their soldiers, hehe :o( You’ve lost the logic, jerk … no one ever has the right to use such a weapon !!! Or ever use a weapon, that’s the point !

And I don’t really know why are you talking about Slovakia ? And if someone tell me that Slovakians are jerks ? I don’t mind … never bother me … maybe I will agree … cause nationalism is a dumb thing !!! You didn’t get the point, i’m talking about stupidity of all people and I used USA as a shining example :o)

  31. Slovakiaz says:

Sounds logic … but an ill way of making potential allies :o(

  32. Slovakiaz says:

It’s the nice example of stupid thinking, hehe !

You don’t get it … if USA didn’t help Europe against Hitler Germany there will be peace about 10 years for new and a lot bigger Germany making more guns to shoot all Americans in their asses. And americans whores would be speaking german too, hehe !!! Can your brain understand this, or is it tough ? Your soldiers (RIP) fought for us – not Europe but for whole world and of course for you ! Thank god for them !
