Calgary Flames-watchers anxiously awaiting Brian Burke’s next move

“We know we have a bunch of unrestricted free agents and Burkie will want to improve the team, that’s for sure. Burkie will make decisions — just like me, just like everybody else — for the best of the organization. Obviously, there is going to be some question marks. There is going to be some speculation.”

There is going to be — there has to be, right? — trades.

Heading into Saturday’s late clash with the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Flames had been shut out in five of their past seven games, the kind of slump that will cause any GM to toss and turn at night.

Even with the addition of Westgarth, they’re still not big enough or black-and-blue enough for Burke’s liking.

And if he wondered during U.S. Olympic deliberations whether Ottawa Senators winger Bobby Ryan can even spell ‘intense,’ there are a few members of Calgary’s current roster that must give him fits for the same reason.

That leaves just one question, really: When will Burke put his stamp on the Flames?

Nobody will be surprised if soon-to-be free agents such as Michael Cammalleri, Matt Stajan and Lee Stempniak are changing addresses before the trade deadline.
