    why leclerc?

    can he score?

HOLY SHITAKE MUSHROOMS! THAT WAS UNEXPECTED! Guess their not dealing CuJo. They gave up on Boucher and want to develop Sauve uner Cujo. Bouch will split time now with Kipper. Kipper could use the time off and have a backup that can win games. I LIKE THE DEAL cause they yotes get a good 2nd or 1st line center. Leclerc wasn’t fitting in. He can do well on a grind line with Yelle or play a gringing along the boards line with Iginla. Whatever works.

Phoenix won this one hands down.

just grab yourself a beer and some nachos. it’ll make you feel better!

    Mmmmm…. Nachos…. good call!

  6. Scruffy05 says:

    He’s a Sutter-esque player…

He’s billed as a top six but really isn’t fast enough and is an ideally suited checking line forward. Lots of upside, but as a checking forward with some reserve goal scoring ability.

My question is, with only 4 real offensive threats (if you include Kobasew) and the rest are primarily defensive player (including Langkow who, while not lost in the offensive zone, is a much stronger 2 way forward in my opinion.) They could really, now with Leclerc, create 3 top penalty killing lines that could school opposing forwards, so then why is there penalty killing merely middle of the road (14th)….

between a post that contains just a link and/or a copy & paste off of the website AND a post with an analyze from the member, I’ll ALWAYS post the one with the analyze no matter which one was submitted first.

    keep doing it, seriously.

oh, I know… just by time I finished mine it reloaded to the front screen and there was his…

I agree that Phoenix go the better forward. This deal doesn’t make alot of sense for Calgary unless there is something else coming up. Calgary Desperately needed a backup as they had lost all faith in Sauve. Kiprusoff has looked less than stellar in the last few games, which leads me to believe that the hip is bugging him and he needs rest. I looked at the salaries and it’s pretty much a wash.

Unfortunately, Calgary now has less offence than they did yesterday. They completely dominated Columbus last night, but just couldn’t finish. There have been a lot of rumours regarding Jokinen, but who the heck does Calgary give up for him??? Sutter has been very adamant about not giving the future away.

I think this trade will work out to be better for Calagary. Boucher is a better backup. He can get hot. Remember his shutout streak? I don’t think he will be playing much, but I think he is more capabile than Sauve at this time. Plus he has some playoff experience if needed.

As for Leclerc, I think he will be an asset on the third line and maybe see some time on the second powerplay unit. He can score some goals. I like Reinprecht but they needed a better backup for Kipper. And Reinprecht was an expendable player.

rumors? yes, going to happen? NO! olli was supposedly just offered a 4 year 16 million dollar deal and he likes florida and understands the team is just a few players away from becoming a great team. (ok, maybe more players than that, but hey’re close, haha)

  12. Kraftster says:

Wow, I don’t know how Calgary thinks they can afford to downgrade offensively. 4th fewest goals for in the west (which turns out to be 4th in the league as well). I mean even if Suave was not playing well and Kip needed a rest, you can’t afford to take this team into the playoffs with less offense than it already has, can you? Can you imagine if this team had not traded for Huselius? Calgary is by no means a lock in the playoff picture, but still, couldn’t they have just gone with Suave for 5 or 6 games if Kipper needed it and been satisfied winning one or two and then getting the points back when Kiprusoff returned? I am really pulling for Calgary, but they are going to have to get something else before the deadline.

Eric Nystrom is the only other somewhat touted recent Calgary pick that I can think of. Aside from their depth on D, I can’t see what they really have to trade for anyone other than picks. What’s the deal with Marchment, does he play often? I can think of 7 dmen they have that are ‘NHL’ dmen not including Richie Regehr: Marchment, Warrener, Leopold, Hamrlik, Regehr, Phaneuf, Ference, so one of them should be the old man out an any given night, I guess there’s tradable parts on D. Will be interesting to see what they do.

I knew Suave had some trade value

Leclerc has been doing great with the Yotes this year. Actually began the year as Coyotes top goal scorer but got sidelined with a knee injury (had surgery). Don’t always expect this from him, however. I don’t think he will be looked upon as a “top goal scorer” but the fact is that he can put it in when he needs to. And it is true that he is a ‘sutteresque’ style player.

Word is that with his work ethic and over-acheiving this year, he was one of Gretzky’s favorites… this would beg the question, however, how he got traded.

I’m also excited to see how Boucher will do behind Calgary’s D. Everyone knows that Boucher has shown glimpses of absolute brilliance during his career and I wonder if Calgary’s D will help to add some consistency to these performances.

  15. cementhead says:

Who says Leclerc wasn’t fitting in? He was fitting in great. Only time he didn’t fit in is while he was in a hospital bed recovering from knee surgery! Have you seen any Yotes games this year?

  16. avsfan6 says:

damn and all we got for him was a conditional draft selection

They could have had Sauve for nothing, Boucher still to me has not proven he is an NHL quality goalie, back up or starter…….but adding reinprecht is a good move, phoenix is definitely improving their team nice to see an organization doesn’t sit on their hands when the team is struggling *cough* JFJ *cough*.

Phoenix has added since the season started, Reinprecht, Sauve, Seidenberg, Scatchard, Michalek, Lundmark…….pretty good. They are still gonna move Joseph so they’ll get yet another decent player in return for him, don’t be surprised if its Vancouver or Edmonton in on that deal.

  18. JeffBurnz09 says:

Flames take a step backwards as far as forwards are concerned, but take a step forwards in terms of their backup goalie. I like Boucher, so adding him as a back up is a nice move. He’s more the capable as a back up, great move.

I’d rather have Reinprecht over Leclerc. I don’t think the Flames need anymore clutch/grab type forwards, so hopefully there’s another deal comming for a better forward. Leclerc is a good pick up, but he doesn’t make the offence better. Flames need one more top forward.

  19. Lint07 says:

A Flames fan here was arguing with me a week or two ago when I said Sutter would be getting an experienced backup before entering the playoffs.

Well, hate to say I told you so.

  20. Lint07 says:

they’ll get a top center, for sure.

And with what happened today, Jokinen might be even closer to Calgary.

  21. thatleafsguy says:

boucher is experienced, but is he good? Nope.

  22. Lint07 says:

as of now, he’s an upgrade over Sauvé for sure.

  23. Kraftster says:

Seeing what it took to get Weight, do you really think the Flames have what it would take to get Jokinen? If Florida and Iron Mike will take just picks, okay, maybe so, but it sure seems like Ottawa can afford to outbid the Flames to me.

  24. FLAMESOWNU says:

lol i think that was me

  25. Realistic says:

I guess that means CuJo is going somewhere!

  26. Realistic says:

Oops, maybe not, brainfart made me think of someone else instead of Boucher…guess they’re keeping CuJo

  27. mojo19 says:

yeah, jfj hasnt done anything, but phoenix is the other extreme, every other week they make a deal.

  28. NemiNA says:

    none. you got me there.

  29. Lint07 says:

    yup. I recognize you.

You can order your Jokinen jersey now… just a hint. 😉

  30. cecilturtle says:

Why would any team want Brian Boucher? Any goalie who played for the Flyers is damaged goods! If any GM’s are out there? If you trade for Boucher??? You are getting ripped off! Actually, If you trade anything of value in the future for a Flyers goalie… Your a sucker!
