CANADIENS ACQUIRE GEOFFRION FROM PREDATORS IN TRADE FOR GILL

The Montreal Canadiens acquired a familiar name in a trade that has defenceman Hal Gill going to the Nashville Predators on Friday.

As part of the deal, the club acquired forward Blake Geoffrion – son of former Canadien Danny Geoffrion, grandson of Habs great Bernie Geoffrion and great-grandson of Montreal legend Howie Morenz.

The Canadiens also sent a conditional fifth-round pick in 2013 to Nashville in the deal and acquired forward Robert Slaney and a second-round draft pick in 2012.

The Predators will get the fifth-round pick if Geoffrion plays at least 40 games with the Canadiens next season.

the price on rentals are insane apparently, good job on Montreal for getting more than top dollar.

This also may tell you something about Nashville's plans. Nashville is stacked on defense, maybe they are thinking of moving Ellis + 2nd/3rd or Blum + 1st for Hemsky. I would have laughed at the idea of Hemsky going for that much but considering the value on Gill, it is very possible. Or maybe Nashville is in the market for something bigger (Carter? Nash??).

i must admit that i think pierre gauthier actually won this trade for once this is a great return on hal gill! good job gauthier now trade moen for a 2nd r.d pick and a prospect as well and try and get at least a 1st r.d pick for kostitsyn!

He's going to trade Subban for Redden.

    Fair value IMO.

your an idiot but how's complaining?

that's our lafleur, no sense of humor and takes offense to every little thing, even if it is clearly a joke.

I love ya lafleur!! We all do!

Good trade, I dont think that either one Geoffrion or Slaney will ever make it to the NHL but that very happy with the 2nd rounder. I knew that Gill would get us at least a 2nd rounder now lets just wait and see what Moen, Kostitsyn and Campolli can get us. I also hope Montreal keeps dropping in the standings so our 1st pick gets better, this seasson should be sacrificed for the good of next year! Montreal weakest spot is the defense but a few prospects are doing very well in the juniors Beaulieu, Ellis, Benett, Pateryn and Tinordi should all make it to the AHL next year and maybe 1 or more of those guys could make it with the habs???

The habs have both their 1st rounders for the next 2 season and 4 second rounders and we havent traded Moen, Kostitsyn and Campolli yet, I just hope that Timmins doesn't waste those picks on Highschool American defensemen, Again! We need offense as the habs don't have much up front besides Kristo and Leblanc.

     forgot about Gallagher.

Wow, nice trade by the Goat.  He should still be fired though.

You gotta like "generational" talent we got plus another prospect and 2nd for Gill and a conditional 5th (if Baby Boom Boom plays 45 games or more for the Habs next year.)
