Canadiens acquire Michael Ryder from Stars in exchange for Erik Cole

The Montreal Canadiens have traded forward Erik Cole to the Dallas Stars in exchange for forward Michael Ryder.

The trade returns Ryder to the organization that drafted him in the eighth round (216th overall) of the 1998 NHL Entry Draft.

Canadiens netminder Carey Price tweeted out to his former teammate shortly after hearing the news.

“Salut Erik. Gonna miss ya brother,” Price’s Twitter handle, @CP0031, wrote.

The 32-year-old Ryder spent the past two seasons with the Stars, regestering 41 goals and 35 assists with a plus- 21 rating through 101 games. Prior to joining the Stars, the native of Bonavista, N.L., spent three seasons with the Boston Bruins.

Cole, 34, has played for the Canadiens the past two seasons and posted 38 goals and 29 assists with a plus- 12 rating through 101 games. Prior to his time in Montreal, the Oswego, NY, native played for the Carolina Hurricanes and Edmonton Oilers.
